I don’t think it takes long to rebuild in the NFL. Sevewl draft picks are ready to play, there are reserves on the Arctic’s squad, and because of the cap you can’t keep more than a couple of your stars, so there s a lot of player movement, unlike MLB.

That is true and in recent memory--pretty much since the Buddy era, they've had a track record of quick turnarounds. They haven't had a playoff drought of longer than three years since before 1988. although the Super Bowl-winning season was preceded by a stretch where they went to the playoffs once in six years.

But then there are teams like the Lions and the Browns who are bad year after year after year and simply can't win for losing.

It's those 7-9 seasons that kill you. If they'd actually stunk for a couple of years they would have just been drafting Wentz, not trading to draft him. But those are also better than 9-7 seasons if you can't win anything - and you draft well.

Kind of funny that - assuming this season doesn't go great - Kelly will have had two 10-win seasons out of three while Pederson will only have one out of five. With a major difference, obviously.

Here is the thing, the age is mostly on the O and D lines and they are going to need major overhaul over the next two offseasons. The bigger question is to me, is Wentz the guy to build around? He has young skill players around him now (including Sanders, Goedert, Reagor, etc..) , but yesterday, for a large part of the game he looked like a rookie, not a five year vet. Holding on the the ball and taking unnecessary sacks, including taking them out of field goal range on a crucial drive. He had two more fumbles, one lost, and threw two picks. The two picks were half his fault, both were to rookies who could have taken better angles to get the ball. But he also still has no touch on his deep ball. After Washington scored their first touchdown near the end of the first half off of his first interception, he had Reagor with two step on his defender, where a better thrown ball would have been a sure TD, instead it sailed over his head by five yards, then the next ball he missed Jackson by almost 10 yards on a deep cross that would have at least put them in FG range if not netted a TD. I'm just not sure he has the makings anymore of a franchise QB, maybe the injuries have taken their toll, surely no preseason to work with his new receivers didn't help, but every team faced that issue. It was hard to gauge his year last year, he was just okay, but with little talent around him, he still threw for 4,000 yards without one receiver having 500 yards. I'm not ready to drop him just yet, but if this season goes on like it did yesterday, a total rebuild may be necessary and see next year if Hurts is the guy.

I blame the coach for blowing the 17-0 lead, but at one point they only running back they had in the game was Clement, and Scott is not a bell cow RB, he's a third down scat back, so that was just poor roster planning going into the game. But if you have a 17-0 lead, and their pass rush is getting to the QB, you have to change things up, go with more protection and instead of sending 3 and 4 WR out, just send out 2 and go with a heavy package, run a draw play, take some three step drops and run slant patterns. They did none of that and just kept 7 step dropping and slinging it down the field. I mean it was abysmal, worst QBR rating in the the league this week.

Assessing a team after a bad loss is a difficult endeavor. Xofog’s points on Wentz could have merit since he’s making the same mistakes that he has made in the past. One would hope that his experience would show and he would make better choices. The OL was bad but still he could throw the ball away or eat it instead of turning it over. The TOs on him are potentially 21 points. There’s no way to forgive that.
I’ve never been a Schwartz fan. Linebackers are important and have been neglected too long in his defense. Better LB play makes defensive backs’ job easier.
It’s going to be a long year in Eagleville.

The linebacker thing is an organizational decision with respect to allocation of resources--they believe in paying for QBs, OL, and DL. And some for DBs. Everywhere else they hope to go cheap but capable. So the linebacker issue isn't on Schwartz.

Unless he tells TPTB that he doesn’t need them. He used Jenkins in sort of a hybrid LB/SS situation for two seasons in order to cover his shortage at the position. Now Jenkins is older and gone leaving holes in the middle of the field. Opponents will exploit this and when the Eagles adjust to cover that, other areas to exploit will be exposed. A good D just isn’t this weak at LB.

Eagles sign veteran OG Jamon Brown off the Bears practice squad, filling the 53 man (adding two guards and no defensive ends with Curry out and Graham in concussion protocol. What does Ostman need to do to get on the roster?

Arcega-Whiteside’s first target in 2 games is a routine catch on 3rd down when his team is down 11. As usual he drops a catch that a 3rd grader could make.

Waste of a draft pick and roster spot. I would much rather have Quez Watkins and see if he can help stretch the field.

I can’t think of any player I have ever seen who is as completely incapable as JJAW. He is both slow and has hands of brick, he can’t get open (0 targets last week) and when the route design leaves him open he drops the ball. I know he was a 2nd round pick but what more does he have to do to prove that he is useless.

He was not even mentioned in last weeks game. I was surprsised at the end of the game to find out he had played 22 snaps. That is a lot of plays to play 10 vs 11.

Gee, I have to think that Schwartz is seriously thinking about putting his house up for sale. His defense is just awful.

Having Jalen Mills trying to stop a TE on the 2 yard line is just asking for trouble. You have to put a LB on the TE that close to the end zone. It became obvious when the TE caught a quick out and fell forward into the end zone, all Mills could do was give him a congratulatory hug.

How many drives in a row has the defense not stopped someone now? 6? 7?

Funny to hear the announcer imply that the Eagles players are missing the fans. Ahh, NO, they are probably quite happy the fans are not there.

And I was about to post, well, even the Cowboys lost, but the Falcons forgot how to recover an onside kick that would have won the game, and the Cowboys win on a last second field goal...

The Phillies are actually better than the Eagles. And that Falcons play was unbelievable. Even if they touch it and don't secure it the Cowboys can't recover it if it hasn't rolled far enough yet right?

No. The kicking team can't touch it first if it hasn't gone 10 yards. If the receiving team touches it first, then the kicking team can recover.

Well, seems like that is what happened then, the Falcons players weren't confident they could secure the ball, but also seemed to wildly misjudge its chance of not travelling far enough if they didn't try.

Wow! That was pretty bad. i'm glad they didn't waste their money on linebackers, they seem never to put that into their budget and that is a wise move. they(linbackers) have so much power to back up the d line, and they cover backs and tight ends so well.

My takeaways from the game:

-- Wentz is showing sub-standard accuracy for a starting QB, but gets a plus for at least throwing the ball away when required

-- Sanders and Scott showed why Clement should not have another carry for the Eagles

-- The Eagles wide receivers just weren't nearly as consistently open as the Rams' receivers

-- the Eagles once again show the folly of settling for an amateur linebacking corps. Linebackers do matter

-- for the second week, our defensive line was far from great

-- their whole defensive plan/personnel just did not work. Time for a change?

-- Their offense once seemed innovative, last year and this year, the opposition never seems off balance, our calls are very predictable

-- Roseman's drafts have killed the team. It is aging and we are getting too little help from the draft. Mortgaging multiple drafts to get Wentz seems less and less a good bet. He may still grow into the job, but he has had a lot of time to do so.

I Has there ever been a 2nd round pick as useless as Arcega-Whiteside? For two straight seasons our receivers are decimated by injuries and he doesn’t even get a target. He never makes a play on Special Teams, his only mentions this year so far is a 3rd down drop and a bad route run that results in an INT (Wentz fault for throwing to him).

At this point just cut him and sign someone off someone’s Practice Squad. He has zero talent, too slow to be a NFL WR and his hands are not anything like advertised. It is a miss, we need WR talent and cannot afford a roster spot that produces absolutely nothing.

The clock has to be ticking on Jim Schwartz. Lots of injuries, but they can’t stop the worst offense in the league.
