Cross posted from another board...
Inspired by two posts in the NFL thread about how many recent draft picks remain on the Giants' and Eagles' rosters, I went to Football Reference and put a list together of the best Eagle draft picks by round of all time. I used PFR's career value (CAV) as a cut off and used a sliding scale based on round picked (also credited active players like Ertz, Wentz, and Lane Johnson with more value than they currently show).
Best Eagles draft picks by round (CAV in parens, active players included with smaller CAV's):
1 Carson Wentz 2016 (32) Lane Johnson 2013 (43) Fletcher Cox 2012 (68) Donovan McNabb 1999 (107) Tra Thomas 1998 (69) Jerry Robinson 1979 (74) Jerry Sizemore 1973 (59)
2 Zach Ertz 2013 (35) LeSean McCoy 2009 (80) DeSean Jackson 2008 (72) Sheldon Brown 2002 (53) Bobby Williams 2000 (52) Brian Dawkins 1996 (100) Charlie Garner 1994 (73) Eric Allen 1988 (98) Randall Cunningham 1985 (107) Wes Hopkins 1983 (60) Frank LeMaster 1974 (60) Guy Morris 1973 (61)
3 Brian Westbrook 2002 (69) Jeremiah Trotter 1998 (74) Duce Staley 1997 (52) Randy Logan 1973 (64)
4 Todd Herremans 2005 (54) William Thomas 1991 (73) Bob Kuechenberg 1969 (83)

8 Seth Joyner 1986 (85)
9 Clyde Simmons 1986 (87)
10 Mark McMillan 1992 (36) Mark Kelso 1985 (41) John Bunting 1972 (49)
11 Al Chesley 1979 (17) Billy Campfield 1978 (16)
12 Joe Lavender 1973 (59)
13 Wade Key 1969 (39)
14 Mark Mosely 1970 (44)
A few comments...
⢠Joyner and Simmons were quite the back-to-back picks in the 8th and 9th rounds in 1986--both had high first-round CAVs.
⢠Bob Keuchenbeerg was cut by the Eagles, retired after being placed on the Falcon's practice squad, played a year of independent ball, then put together a hall-of-fame worthy career for the Dolphins. Raheem Brock, Bobby Williams, Mark Moseley, and arguably King Dunlap were guys who put up most of their value for other teams after being cut.
⢠We're awesome picking in round 2 (clearly better overall than round 1), awful in round 5 (and lately in round 3)
⢠Joe Lavender was one heck of a 12th round draft pick
⢠The three guys topping round 6 are probably unmatched by any other team (except maybe the Patriots with one guy...)
