Lane Johnson suffered a sprained MCL and will probably miss a month. For much of the first half, the Eagles were without Johnson and Peters. Big V played most of the game spending time on both sides.

A messy win which barely keeps the playoff hopes alive. The odds aren't good, especially with Johnson out for a month, which almost always turns out to be longer. I wouldn't make a deadline deal, unless help can be obtained really cheap. We need our salary room and draft picks for next year. This year's prognosis isn't great, with or without a deadline deal.

Redskins won today (no shock, they played the Giants) and are now 5-2. They have a much easier schedule than the Eagles' schedule the rest of the way. Redskins have Eagles x 2, Texans, Titans, Giants, Cowboys, Jaguars, Falcons, Buccaneers. Eagles have Redskins x2, Cowboys x 2, Giants, Saints, Rams, Texans. I think the Eagles need to go at least 6 - 2 over their last 8, and they have to beat the Redskins twice to have a chance to win the division. It's not likely, but if the offense keeps getting better as Wentz keeps improving, it's possible.

i agree with allentown. nothing unless it's cheap. they need too much going forward and with 4, somewhat, early picks should get help.

Beating Washington twice is essential, and having them lose to Tampa Bay/Jaguars/Texans at least twice. That would put them at 10-6. We need to go 6-2 and hold the tie-breaker to get in. I think it's a long shot given the health status of the team.

Eagles picked up WR Golden Tate from Detroit.

...and it wasn't particularly cheap....a straight 3 for a guy who is an UFA at the end of the season (and yes I know that if we lose him he might yield a comp pick in 2020).

He should be a step up from Wallace and even Torrey Smith. There is value.

I wouldn't have made this deal. Too low odds on this season, with so many other problems, besides WR. Really, WR was far from the biggest need. The 3rd-rounder will be really needed next season. Borrowing from the future comes at a price. We are already hurting from not having a 2 or 3 in the past draft. Yes, we'll likely get a comp pick, but a year delayed and probably a 6th rounder, 5th if we're lucky. Doesn't come close to making up for missing a 3rd rounder in next year's draft. I guess this is a gamble on squeaking into the playoffs and having Jernigan, Johnson and Ajayi back at that time.

We have 2 second round picks coming up and likely 2 fourth rounders as well, so while a 3rd is a high price for a rental, it's not really too hard for what they still have in picks.

A 3rd is a tough loss, but if he returns a 4th or so as a FA loss than it isnt too bad.

Tate is a very solid player, and we need someone with speed badly as Agholor has regressed into a possession receiver. Doesnt solve all the problems, but a better offense will help the defense which is only "OK" this year.

The Division is very, very winnable as Washington is almost certainly a mirage, and once you get in the playoffs anything can happen.

Sadly Washington got the guy we probably really needed, a Safety in Clinton-Dix for a 4th rounder. I think that would have been something to see if we could "steal" with maybe a 4th this year and a 6th or something like that.

I wonder how this affects who the Eagles bring back off of IR. Hollins is eligible to come off the IR now. Wallace after the Cowboys game, but now do you really need them both back (for a WR core of Tate, Jeffery, Aglohor, Hollins, Wallace and one of Matthews, Gibson or Carter.), or do you just bring back one WR (and which one?) and bring back Richard Rodgers (would he be a big improvement over Perkins)?

The Eagles released DT Bruce Hector to make room for Tate on the roster. They have a practice squad spot open, so Hector will probably land back there.

There is a chance Jernigan will be back soon too.

That leaves us super thin at DT. We could have played a DE inside, but lost Barnette.

Bennett and Graham both can play inside. Ngata is back, so they should be okay for now. Once Jernigan comes back, the should be okay at DT assuming the other guys stay healthy. I hope Jernigan is back soon, because I'm worried Cox is going to be totally worn out and less effective for the last few games of the season.

To me this is a lot like the Jernigan deal was, so I think I'm ok with the deal. Tate has always been a productive receiver and his impact receptions are up a bit so far up this year, even at 30. Value wise I think Tate is a much better receiver at this stage than DThomas is and if he costs a 4th than it seems this is ok value.

This year Tate gives us some yards after catch and downfield capability that we need to open up the offense, and as a slot receiver going forward I think he replaces Agholor next year (for maybe $1.5-2.0M more). Ags had a really good year last year but has been pedestrian this year and will cost $9.5M with no dead cap in 2019.

We still have about $9M of cap space available this year and it wouldn't surprise me to see Tate signed in a front loaded contract that uses a lot of that money. I do think Agholor is the loser here.

Falcons did the Eagles a solid by beating the Redskins putting a dent in the common opponents tiebreaker. Now just one game back in the division. Watching the Saints-Rams game, the Eagles are going to have to make a 180 degree turn on the season to get to the level that those two teams are at.
