Eagles 2018-2019 Season

Wow, seems too quick for it to be football season, but that's what happens when your team wins the Super Bowl!

The Eagles will kick off the season this next Thursday night at home versus the Falcons. The Eagles will have a target on their back all season, and they enter their season with a roster that is still in flux. LB Nigel Bradham is suspended for the first game of the season. Reports today are that Foles will likely start and they will hold Wentz out at least until game 2. Foles was terrible in the preseason. Peters and Sproles are coming back from injury and did not play in the preseason. Jeffery will not play in game 1 either. Graham only played a few snaps of preseason. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to just turn it on for the regular season, or if it will take a few games to get everything in sync.

Keeping Warmack and cutting Means was a surprise to many. Otherwise pretty much chalk as far as cut-down moves go. I guess Adams/Smallwood was close, but I'm betting Adams makes the practice squad.

I loved Means' energy but he has rarely been used. I agree that Adams will likely still be available for the TS as the raves coming out of practice sessions didn't show up during games. Any team looking at tapes will likely not be impressed.

I am guessing that a large number of our cuts get another chance on some other team as our roster is really stacked. Good players were cut. And when the injured come back, we still have to more players to cut. The NFL needs a minor league so that players we start on the road to excellence can stick around. Play for the Lehigh Valley Beagles in the Amos Alonzo Stagg league. The NBA now has a "minor league". Why not football?

The Eagles traded for S Deiondre Hall. He is also suspended for the first game so he does not yet count on the 53 man roster. When he and Bradshaw come back, likely Sullivan and Perkins will be dropped. Hall was drafted by the Bears when Joe Douglas was there. The Eagles traded a conditional 7th round pick.

The Eagles claimed LB D.J. Alexander on waivers from the Seahawks. He is a very good special teams player. He'll have to replace someone on the 53, so the roster is far from settled. Looks like at least three moves before week 2.

Which is one reason Foles is starting the first game, until they get Bradham back. Probably a loss. It would actually be interesting to see Maillatta at MLB. When training camp started, I thought OT was too disciplined a position for him to adapt to quickly. In a pinch, bring him in to do pure mayhem in the middle of the field.

I smiled when I read Allentown's outside the box thought on where to play Jordan. But if the Birds can turn him into a solid replacement for Peters in the year (or less) we have of time to prepare, that would be a huge plus for the years ahead. As we all know, having a plus left tackle is essential for the life expectancy of our QBs. One that will have years to grow and seemingly has all the natural gifts of speed, balance, footwork and meanness would be a miracle!

Richard Rodgers has been placed on IR and Markus Wheaton has been added to the 53 man roster for game one.

In addition to Bradham and Hall's suspensions for the game one on Thursday, both WRs Alshon Jeffery and Mack Hollins are out. Hollins will probably only miss game 1, Jefferey is close to coming back, but he might not be active until week 3. Wentz will not be active on Thursday, Sudfeld is the backup to Foles

Tomorrow night, NFL Network is showing two Eagles specials, Philly Special @ 8:00pm and Americas Game - The 2017 Eagles Season @ 9:00pm;

No real confidence in tonights game, but plenty in the season.

Sproles and Peters didnt take a snap this preseason, our #1 and #4 WR are out, our best DT is out, our best LB is out and we are starting our backup QB. Against some teams that wouldnt be disaster, but Atlanta is very good, in fact they were probably the 2nd best team in the NFC last year in my opinion, and return (quietly) the best of the other teams (Minn made changes, etc.). This to me is now a probable loss, but hopefully I am wrong.

That said, I am highly confident in the season, we have a tough schedule but it plays out well (not playing anyone when they have a longer break, bye just where we need it, NFC East is very flawed), and we have amazing depth now. I really hope that our hopeful future LT (Malata) gets a chance to play a little this year, the guy is a monster and his strength is special. He and Johnson will be the most athletic tackle combination in NFL History.

me neither, but you know of my constant pessimism. i really think they will be ok this year, but will challenge again for the lombardi next year. they are solid but with a good draft (#1, 2#2's and the others will really supplement an already great roster. we'll see. eagles are going into this game without much momentum, but really, what have the falcons done to
anoint them into this team everyone is giving so much credit to. D will have to be strong in this one. give folks a chance to warm up again.

Mack Hollins has been put on IR, which means he can't come back until week 9. Have to really hope Gibson really is as good as he looked in preseason.

Awful first half...line can't block, so Foles can't get in a rhythm. Not too far behind because the defense has played well (except for two dropped interceptions that honestly were not easy catches).

Almost a carbon copy of last year's playoff game, Eagles win 18-12, Falcons turned away on an incomplete end zone play to Julio Jones. Tons of flags. Eagles ran another Philly Special to big success, when Wentz comes back, they might have to send Foles out as a WR on a couple plays It was a tough game to watch, no really big plays, just a battle of attrition. Eagles won the game in the trenches on both sides of the ball. I don't think any Eagles were injured, which is always a plus.

Standouts, I thought Cox, Hicks (except for the last penalty that gave them an extra shot to win the game), and Johnston did a nice job punting. Jason Peters was studly, so nice to have him back.

I don't think Wentz comes back until week 4 or 5. Bradham is back next week for an already excellent defense. Hopefully Jeffrey gets green-lighted after this long week. The receivers were pretty pedestrian, Algohor caught a lot of passes, but everything was short. Still, they did just enough to win. Next game is @ the Buccaneers with no Winston, so that should be a win.

X has it correct, no injuries. that will be the big thing this year. especially cox. he was hit with a illegal block by that falcons guard (from the side/behind and at the knee). thank goodness he was flowing to the play, and the leg was not on the ground. could have been bad. foles should get better. the timing is kind of like last year's oakland game.\, poor. but manageable game, then a better giants game. can't let down, playing a team without winston.
