Which begs the next question. Who is backing up Foles? because the drop off from, Wentz to Foles is one thing. From Foles to Sudfield, however, is another matter entirely.

I, for one, don't have an axe to grind against Kapernick but signing him would be a distraction at an inopportune time.

Hard to argue with that.

It's also possible Wentz will miss a good chunk of next season. 9-12 months a pretty normal time though you never know with an elite athlete. Conversely of course, he could be hampered in future seasons and/or at risk for reinjury. What a shame.

ACL recovery time for athletes is more like 7-9 months. Although you absolutely don't want to take chances with Wentz.

Well that's good, I did see 6-9 months bandied about in one article. Though I imagine it depends on the exact nature of the tear (or tears). Either way it changes the planning/prognosis for the first half of next season.

Read that Dr. Andrews says 9-12 months. But on the shorter side for athletes.

I do have to say that ACL surgery looks like one of those procedures that has advanced a great deal in recent years. Last season, the St. Joe's Hawks had a player, Shavar Newkirk, who blew out his ACL in the conference season opener in early January. He was ready to go for practices in October and has played very well this season. So, I guess his timeline was about ten months.

1) Eagles absolutely need to sign a veteran to back up Foles. If this was earlier in the season, I'd say Kaepernick. But, heading into the playoffs, I think he's too much of a media distraction. I have no idea who is available.

2) I've also read 9-12 months, I think we all have the same source. But, Wentz is your franchise QB. Erring on the side of caution is prudent.

3) Next season's starting QB could very well be Foles.

Eagles will have to free up money if they want to keep Foles. The better he plays, the more they will have to pay. Let's hope they have to pay a lot!!

I think he has a 7.6 $M cap hit next year if not cut.

People are suggesting Tony Romo.

My guess is they don't get anyone major. Sudfield's been practicing all year, he knows the offense, if Foles goes down too, having a more veteran "name" who hasn't played all season isn't gonna get you anywhere either.

Bringing McGloin back as emergency QB would make sense too.

And for both of them those stats basically all came in one magical season. Foles hasn't been nearly the same since that season. Hopefully Wentz will fully recover and pick up where he left off.

Do we sign a new backup QB. RG III or Kaepernick?

I think I'd bring in Kaepernick but for next year. Heading into the playoffs, I'm worried Kaepernick is too much of a media distraction. I'd bring him in for next year and deal with the media in the pre-season and get it out of the way then.

I'd sooner bring in Chase Daniel - at least he knows the offense.

Actually, media distractions are a great thing. It keeps the media from picking apart the players who will actually be playing. Kaepernick wouldn't play until the last game of season or playoffs, even if Foles were dinged, because he has to learn the system and practice with the receivers. I think he comes cheap now, just to get back into the game.

Not that they have it in the bag, especially w/o Wentz, but the remaining schedule is easy enough that they could weather the distractions. By the time the playoffs roll around, no one will care. Unless he has to play, in which case, the talent would be worth the distraction.

As Hayes points out, Eagles have embraced controversy (not that I personally think Kap should be controversial) before, and more importantly, in the end, most fans only care if they are winning (which was probably also true in San Francisco, except of course they weren't).

Mostly a coincidence I'd say. Maybe Wentz's agent already had a client (on the Steelers or otherwise) who's used him. Or he's just good. I know a lot of people use the Reds & Bengals guy because he's considered really top-notch. And if Wentz had gone to Dr. Andrews he'd be using the Redskins' guy.

Eagles win 34 - 29, and clinch a 1st round bye. Vikings also won, so if Eagles win next week, they will lock up home field throughout. The defense wasn't very good today, but I suppose some of that is due to it being a division game, and they always are tough. Foles had a good game, 4 TD 0 Interceptions, but missed a few throws.
