Dick Groat, a star at Duke who played in the NBA before becoming an All-Star shortstop and the 1960 NL MVP with the Pirates, has died at the age of 92.

May he be at peace in a higher place....
but someone tell me that hitting .325 with 2 homers and 50 RBI and winning an MVP is 'normal' for back then if the player was on the WS champs...because Aaron, Mays and Clemente just destroyed the ball that year in the NL...among others.

He was always provocative and a bit of a showman. Did he coarsen American culture or reflect it? You can ask the same of Howard Stern and Vince McMahon but I definitely think Jerry was a better human than either of them (and Howard's the better person of those two, to be clear!).
