Wayne Shorter, legendary jazz saxophonist who played with Miles Davis and was a founding member of Weather Report, has passed away, he was 89. I loved him as a friend.

Thank you for posting. An amazing musician. He played with all kinds of other legends - Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jaco Pastorious, Joe Zawinul, Freddie Hubbard, Elvin Jones, Tony Williams and many more.

Plus he released a whole slew of solo albums. I'd recommend if people have not heard Juju or Speak No Evil and you like jazz, do so. They are great.

He will be greatly missed.

Hall of Fame Vikings coach Grant dies at age 95

We were living in Minneapolis when Grant became head coach of the Vikings. Wow, that seems like a long time ago. Not many did more with such success as Bud Grant. He joined the Navy during WWII after graduating from high school. Lettered in 3 sports at the University of Minnesota. Was drafted by the Lakers and the Eagles. Played 2 seasons in the NBA with the Lakers, winning one NBA championship. Played 2 seasons with the Eagles before going to Canada where he played 4 years to the Blue Bombers before becoming their head coach. After more than a hundred wins as a coach in the CFL, he took over the Vikings. Grant is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

Bud Grant, dead at 95.

As a kid with a nomadic family, I became a Vikings fan because I loved Fran Tarkenton, Chuck Foreman, Sammy White, Alan Page. I was really sorry they could never win the big game, but what a fun team under Grant.

I read somewhere that Bud Grant and Marv Levy were the two oldest living Pro Football Hall of Famers. Of course, they had something else in common, too. RIP, coach.

Dick Fosbury, who revolutionized high jump and was 1968 Summer Olympics...

Remember watching the the Mexico City moment in '68.

Makes me wonder. Has any athlete ever change the arc of their sport more than Fosbury? Babe -- Gretzky -- Pele. Did they fundementally revolutionize their sport or just change the performance standard?

Only ones I can think of would be Pete Goglak as the first "soccer" kicker in football and maybe Edwin Moses, who arguably changed the 400 hurdles from a "run" to a sprint by changing the strides taken between hurdles. Was Orr the first "rush the blueline" defenseman?

I re-watch The Wire every year. Such a good show. The casting is incredible- besides the authenticity brought by casting so many inner city actors from Baltimore, I had no idea how many British actors were in the show until years later.

He was great in everything and anything. Oz to John Wick and in between.
