2024 Trade Deadline Speculation

27.2 IP and a 5.03 ERA the last 2 months. Crochet was not the only one thinking it wise to limit his innings. His team did for good reason. He might have been a good long term acquisition, but he never made sense for the short term which was what the Phillies needed. I doubt the Phillies ever made serious offers for him. Of course other teams would ask for Painter. There is no reason the Phillies would have considered that though.

Yeah I'm sure every trade talk the Phillies had of any significance began with the other team asking for either Painter or Miller (or both). Whereas the Phillies might have started with Crawford (plus Abel). They'd already done the Estevez deal so those other pitchers we already gone.

The fact that the Phillies wouldn't include Painter was already in Rosenthal's July 30 story.
