You don't need to see this. You've seen it on repeat over and over again.
They have never advanced beyond the conference semifinals with Embiid. People talk about losing to the Raptors that year - WTF if that's the closest you are going to get, you're not close. They came up 9 games short.
I've been all out on the core since 2021 - which is to say Embiid. I'm not a johnny come lately on this - I've been posting it here since I found this site.
Winners compete - which means a lot more than just getting pissed off some times and exerting max energy to physically dominate someone. Winners don't think they are preparing by playing pickup ball in the city all summer. Guys like Kobe, MJ, LeBron - they combine the talent with the will to do whatever it takes - consistently, all the time.
I've competed and coached my entire life and seen plenty of guys like Joel (to scale). You don't throw them away, but they are NEVER the primary driver of a team's championship-level success. Never.
That has always been the Sixer's mistake. Joel is not THE guy and never will be. He could certainly be a contributor on a championship team as long as someone else was the team leader raising the level expectations on all of the other players on the team and holding them accountable.
People say things like "it's a players league" and it is, but the championship teams still all have that major cog that's kicking everybody else's butt on the team and showing them how it's done. Whether they like him or not.
Problem is that Ben Simmons probably lowered everyone's expectations around here about what kind of player you could build a team around. Joel looked great in comparison.
