Recent acquisition Quentin Grimes should be suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. He and his 26 points per game this month are liable to lead to some disastrous outcomes, like today's win over the Mavs that hurts the Sixers' lottery chances. Bench or suspend him now!

The Athletic's recent misery index still had the Mavs and Suns ahead of the Sixers for being in the worst spot/having the most unhappy fans.

He seems like he can be a big scorer on a bad team and not even in the ledell eackles kind of "never met a shot he didn't like" kind of way.

Hard to know until we see what they do in the draft, plus there's still a non-zero chance they move on from PG, though I would think that won't be as easily done as it was with Horford (and Sixers still paying for that trade right now!)

Strange to have 2 contending teams and 2 tanking teams in our city right now....time of extremes.

We thought the Sixers would be contenders when the season started to be fair. Who knows what will happen with the Phillies and Eagles once their seasons begins.

Ouch! Hard to see the Eagles sinking that far but I guess even sinking like 2023 would be pretty far. And the Phillies, well, I like 'em, but neither of the 2023 World Series teams even made the playoffs in 2024 so you just never know.

Let's be real though, what's strange is to have even one contending team ever, let alone two! I guess everyone was decent or better between 2001 and 2004 (but the Phillies didn't make the playoffs).

Couple of injuries to key players and some under-performance from a couple more and a season can fall apart fairly quickly. Especially for an NFL team across just 17 games. I wouldn't bet on it, but I expected the Sixers to be contenders in the East.

I really don't think so. It's unusual to go to a WS or a Super Bowl, much less to win the Super Bowl, but it should not be at all unusual for two of the 4 major professional teams in a large market to make it to the playoffs -- I think even having a strong chance of making the playoffs and narrowly missing qualifies the team as a contender. The playoffs are a bit of a crap shoot. What is unusual is for a team like the Sixers to be uncompetitive for as long as they have been or for the Phillies to have so many prolonged noncompetitive periods. I don't follow the Flyers but they were once a good team which now can't seem to do much of anything right.

Well the Sixers haven't been uncompetitive before this year. They tanked and then they made the playoffs 7 straight times. They also made the playoffs four years out of five before the Process. They've just had a low ceiling and you can really only say one of them was bad luck/crapshoot.

Flyers are the same, they've been in the playoffs plenty but only a few legit chances in the past 20 years (and that one trip to the Final was almost a first-round exit). But they have never tanked until now.

And the Phillies since the '70s have also been good more often than not, especially measured by WS appearances. It's just that the fallow periods have been really bad and some of the good ones felt like draft luck more than design.

I was "coming of age" as a sports fan in 1972-1973. The Phillies won 59 games (32 if you exclude Steve Carlton's wins). The Eagles went 2-11-1. The Sixers were 9-73. Only the Flyers were a winning team, losing the semifinals.

I think it made me really appreciate the good times when they came. The Flyers won the Stanley Cup the next year. The Phillies and Sixers were still a few years from the playoffs but became good teams within a few years and eventually won championships within a decade. The Eagles took longer to become respectable but Vermeil turned them around.

I was born in '67 and it's kind of funny to think that I thoroughly absorbed the idea of Philly as a long-suffering hard-luck sports town even though the first things I really experienced were two Stanley Cups, the Sixers losing in the '77 NBA Finals and the Phillies winning three straight division titles (but losing three straight NLCS). By '80 we had a World Series parade and a Super Bowl loss, with a Sixers championship and two Cup final losses to Edmonton coming before I turned 20.

But then came the Giles, Braman and Comcast eras, and all four teams were not well-run/owned. Still haven't been, in the case of the basketball team and the Comcast team.

My kids here in Boston are so spoiled, having seen four Red Sox, seven Patriots, two Celtics, and one Bruins championship in 30+ years. At that age I had had one Phillies, one Sixers (I don't really remember 1967), and two Flyers championships. (I don't count the Eagles winning when I was one year old either.)

I grew up with the 70's and 80's teams all experiencing some level of success - Phillies 76-83, 76ers 77-83, Flyers 74-87, Eagles 78-81.

It was an arid desert for most of the 80's (after 1983) and 90's (outside of 1993 & 1997), but the 2000's were better with Eagles & Flyers doing well, 76ers getting to the Finals in 2001 and Phillies starting to come on as the decade went on.

Since 2008, the Phillies flamed out until 2022, 76ers have largely been nowhere and Flyers have one Finals appearance in 2010 and then a dry run bordering on 15+ years now. Eagles and Phillies carrying the torch now with hopes of the Flyers relevancy in 2-3 years. I've given up on the 76ers.
