Nurse has been pretty disappointing this year even if his hands are tired. But you would have expected him to do more with a team missing its stars (and sometimes he has, in that it now seems they are even worse with them).
I have trouble viewing Morey's tenure as a total failure really. He inherited the Harris contract, he inherited Simmons and he still did a great job early on unloading Horford. He also managed to not trade Maxey. And this last draft and this year's trades don't look so terrible. Obviously Harden was his great failing but that probably was the best team of the Joel era even if both of them came up short. And now this.
Not sure what a new GM could or would do differently short of new Process. What qualities do the guys who've won NBA championships in the past 10 years share? Obviously Sixers will never have a great owner or consistent culture like Miami or San Antonio. Bob Myers with this owner and without Steph doesn't get it done (just like Danny Ainge isn't ever going to get it done in Utah).
It is amazing that the Comcast/Croce era was the last great time. As soon as Pat left it was over, and these guys are worse.
In the end it's really still about Joel - some of it his fault and some of it bad luck. Above all else what the Celtics, Bucks and Nuggets had in their most recent championships was the best player (along with better support, obviously).
