The KJ Martin trade (him and two second round picks) from r essentially nothing has to hurt your ego a little. I am reminded of the Scott Skiles trade decades ago (him and a 1st round pick for a 2 nd round pick).

Has the season been much better? Max contract for 17/5/5 on a pathetic 42% shooting and really very little impact. This is his youngest season of the contract, it is just going to get worse.

The timid play is likely due to being hurt. Hopefully the pain will lessen and he'll get used to the brace. Until the next injury. Too bad season-ending surgeries and tanking isn't really an option.

Morey said yesterday that the long term prognosis for Joel's injury is good, that is is getting better slowly (but slower than they hoped. Their medical staff (and six other consultants) said it will eventually be much better, they just don't know when. Last night's first half was awful, now it's on to the next game.

Watching the Eagles win just reinforces how badly I, personally, want to see a Sixers title. It seems just implausible.

The Sixers management and ownership has the competence level of the Jets or the Snyder Washington team in NFL.

I'd say they are more like the Cowboys. They have talent, and have not been completely without success (division titles and some playoff success) but the incompetence gives it a ceiling, and they either make the wrong hires or good hires have no chance under this ownership (an ownership group, which, incidentally, was in New Orleans watching the Super Bowl - and not because they are Eagles fans like Middleton - and attending a Fanatics party, not in Milwaukee with the Sixers). And then what we see as bad luck is really just built in to the kind of teams and players they've had. Also, Joel=Dak.

But the Devils are good and the Commanders look poised to thrive. The Sixers problem has always been that ownership was too hands-on so instead of worrying that Harris loves his football team more we should only hope so.

Very odd half game today:

Maxey with 0 pts, on only 2 shots in 17 minutes. I am guessing he is extremely happy to see Embiid out there and not forced to take half of the teams shots.

I'm disappointed they didn't punt this season when they had the chance.

With the Eagles win, no one would notice and they would come out of the summer with a cornerstone player

But the odds of that were pretty slim. Either because they still wouldn't have come out of the lottery in the top six or because the player still won't be a cornerstone. I mean, look how many cornerstone players they got in five-six tries of The Process. And they've also seemingly gotten two really good pieces without drafting that high (plus the one they didn't keep years go was drafted higher).

Plus they couldn't have traded Joel (literally or for a good enough deal if it had been possible).

I'm okay with the fact that they are actively saying the goal of clearing that cap space and opening up those options is to keep Yabu, though they still can't win a bidding war. Beyond that they still really don't have much choice but to see what Joel has left. Doesn't mean they can't still trade George in the off-season for a retool. I suppose they could also decide to tank next year, but seems doubtful.

I guess the one way you tank now is just to shut Joel and George down (assuming they would actually lose more games without them, versus the past few).

I don't think we posted about it Joel telling ESPN he's probably having another surgery. Team tried to walk that back. I'd be a million dollars he does have some kind of procedure. Morey's comment recently about all the medical experts signing off were entirely about the time of the extension, not the current state of things. And of course he also said he's focused on a championship (as did Harris).

As Joel Embiid talks about surgery and the Sixers look lifeless, their schedule...

the sixers really can only hope to get to #6 since the "Top 5" are pretty terrible teams.

At this point you can only hope the nets can win enough to let the sixers settle at their spot.

5 is not out of the question. What would stink is finishing 5th or 6th but dropping. I just hit that "sim" button and it had Toronto dropping from 5 to 7 (with Washington and Charlotte picking 5-6) which, if that was the Sixers, would cost them the entire pick (Sixers dropped from 7th to 8th in that sim, so no matter there).

They made their decision when they didn't trade Yabu or Oubre (if not George). I bet they'll get some buyout guys now

I actually think they had an awesome off-season that just didn't work out( yet?) and have been given an opportunity to add a difference maker who can join with Maxey and McCain when this experiment is done. Flagg, Harper, Bailey, Jakucionis, Demin, Knueppel (this would be the Howie Roseman pick), Newell , and Maluach would all very much help the team next year more than any free agent they could find.

This is a deep draft and I wish we were in it.

Just shut down Embiid and maybe George and see if you can get them healthy for 2025/26.
