A couple of seconds is reportedly the current offer. Does a first from a top team (I.e. Boston) really move the needle?

My guess is they don't trade him, though if they do it will be as much about shedding more salary as amassing assets/giving up (though that's a form of giving up). Hard to really know whether he'd be re-signable regardless of what Sixers' best offer could actually be. We just know they can't outbid other teams on paper.

Morey is rarely boring though I suppose he was last year.

ESPN reporting the Sixers giving up Martin +2 second round picks and receiving cash considerations. I thought the whole point of Martin’s contract was to assist in salary matching. What a debacle.

I believe it’s seven years, and you are not allowed to cumulatively trade consecutive first round picks - with the loophole being you can trade your first on draft night and you can swap firsts in a trade as long as you keep your pick that you are required to hold onto. For example if you trade your 2025 first you are not allowed to trade your 2026 first until the 2026 draft, and you could agree to swap your 2026 pick with another team.

Not 100% sure - i think that was the whole reason they signed him to that contract to begin with (an obvious over pay) was to allow them to make a deadline deal matching salary, and they wouldn’t have had to spend draft picks dumping salary if they hadn’t signed him to such a large deal to begin with - just seems like an admission to making a mistake

KJ Martin is a useful player. This is not a fan-friendly trade, unless it allows the Yabu signing.

There is no question they are simply trying to save money and future cap space in a lost season. But it probably means they won't trade Yabu. The team's not going anywhere this year, they can't tank and they also can't improve enough for it to matter, so let the chips fall where they may.

I'm sure the locker room - and George specifically - is wondering what the heck the team's goals are, as well as if anyone else might still be traded today.

That was also his first game after missing five with the finger injury, and he's going to be in a brace for the rest of the regular season probably.

Listen, he's old and injury-prone and hasn't been able to hit the ceiling of what they need from him in terms of carrying the team when Joel can't play, let alone the superstar ceiling but nobody expected that. The season is a bust and the contract might be too. But he's still the #3 the Sixers wanted (and the idea was not for Joel to be out this much, and also that Joel could carry the team when George can't play).

The promised George they wouldn't trade him this season, but I expect he would not hold them to that promise if they move him to a contender.
