It's also possible the Phillies will be able to get him to AAA. Certainly if he shows no signs of life his value drops another tick, and even if he does rosters will be crowded. Obviously a tanking team or a team prepared to offer him more playing time wasn't out there trying to beat the Phillies offer.
I'm sure the Phillies are interested in the idea of still unlocking what made him a top prospect but that would be a bonus.
Kind of a drag for Guthrie but he was probably not going to put the offensive numbers he did last year. And Pache is much younger!
He did have a good spring which is why it's a little surprising the A's gave up on him. He was a key piece in the Olson deal just last year.
Cheese, I suspect this cinches Bohm as the 1B twice a week. Not sure it matters whether he DHs or is at 1B if he's not playing third though. At the end of the day his 3B defense still isn't that good so getting Sosa there 2-3 times a week makes the team better.
The Phillies actions will speak louder than words. If they are not letting Hall play against LHP they have already decided he is not the full-time answer (though as a LHB he'll still get 3/4 of the starts). If they are not letting Bohm play 3B full-time, ditto. Conversely, they may put Marsh and Stott out there six times a week because they are committed to making them full-time starters.
