My opinion is Rob Thomson has been a really good manager. You really don't think so? And you don't think Dusty was until 2022?

Anybody else think CBP was slightly quieter yesterday than in the series against the Braves? I did. Loved the announcer observing that CBP was the only MLB park that doesn't need seats.

Just for a second, it looked like the Phils pen would slam-close the game when Dominguez came in, but nooooooo. On that note, noticed Hoffman warming up. No doubt Big Rob wants to give him a chance to get his groove back.

I can hardly wait to see Orion again. The Phils are still finding out how strong he is. I get the caution with him, but he looks ready. Nobody has touched him.

It sounded just as loud to me on TV. I'm not sure I understand the view that Hoffman needs to get his groove back. He's given up 1 BB, 1 HBP, and 1 Hit which was a home run. It was a mistake pitch, not unlike Wheeler's pitch last night.

I DO think that Big Rob has been a really good manager. I think he is uniquely right for the Phils.

I acknowledge that Dusty hadn't done that much until last year. I wouldn't trade Big Rob for him today on a bet.

I don't dispute your detailed knowledge of all that has happened.

BUT, if you take away the names and go back to the moment when you're deciding who to hire, if there's a guy that has won a WS championship, that would seem to be the highest qualification a candidate can have. He has proven he knows how it's done. So the selection of Big Rob, good as it is, may or may not have been a good decision for the Phils. Big Rob has to PROVE he was a good selection.

I'm sure we can work this out at the bar.

Callison, I was thinking the same myself. it seemed loud, but there were times when there wasn't much noise. Don't know if it was because of being Arizona and not the braves or the crowd was just nervously watching.

IMHO, he had been getting pretty steady, or in a groove, until his last outing, when he was given great responsibility and gave the Braves game away. In the minority, I've talked a lot about it. You want your guys to show some poise and Hoffman didn't have it. So I think Big Rob is looking for an opportunity for him to get back in a game and pitch his best, get his confidence up.

If the Phils go with talent over experience, Kerkering will see more action.

I don't know how 111db ranks in crowd noise, but I suspect it's lower than what we heard against the Braves. The AZ series is a level higher in the playoffs, but the Braves rivalry and "best team in MLB" hype could make the difference.

Thinking more about it, maybe the media observed, hey, these fans are making too much racket and the adoring TV audience might be missing our brilliant commentary, so let's mute the crowd reception for them. I prefer the racket. The Braves series likely set some records.

It is hard to believe in order to win the WS the Phillies will still have to win more games than they already have thus far in the playoffs. I guess that shows how much longer the final series are as compared to the first 2.

That 111db recording was right after Schwarbers home run. Its very hard to tell over the broadcast in general. I'd imagine yesterdays game flow may have affected the fans. Three big home runs early and it looked like we were going to coast home, then only 2 runs from the third inning onwards.
Plus the nerves of the Diamondbacks clawing their way back into the game leading to the crowd getting tight.

I think it was actually Harper's. Maybe both. It always ebbs and flows. Also depends where you are sitting, in terms of how much of the noise reaches you. I have not been to a game this playoffs that was louder than Game 5 of last year's NLCS or Game 3 of the WS. But I'm sure their equivalents (if Phillies can clinch NLCS at home, or the first WS home game) will be.

If you read that Inquirer story 109-111 was pretty typical for all big plays, while things like booing Arcia was around 100, and the levels dropped to 80 or so when the Braves did good things.

agreed. Personally, I want to see less regular season baseball. Perhaps have Opening Day be in early May instead of the end of March or early April. 162 games is dreadful but I love every second of the MLB Postseason.
