Looks like the big trades will require pressure of time running out. The Angels are still saying hell no about trading Ohtani, but with Trout out for 4 - 6 weeks, their short term future looks bleak and they stand a good chance of just losing him next season and getting nothing. Some observer said they were 6 - 2 without Trout, but doesn't mention which teams they were playing. Regardless, they're surely a level weaker without Trout. Ohtani comes on the market. we'll see bidding wars never seen before in MLB. Do the Phils even have the capital to compete? If for nothing else, drive the price way up. One team that has the capital is the Giants and they will be there until the end in their pursuit of Ohtani.
The Cards, too, are whistling past the graveyard. My second favorite trade dream is to acquire Goldschmidt, but it looks like it's in vain.
Looks like there is ONE 3B available, Candelario, but doesn't look like much of an upgrade. Might happen, but not that exciting.
Hoping for the Pads and the Mets to keep losing so they become sellers and don't compete for the Phils' trade targets. The Giants picked a bad time to go cold against the Mets.
If the Pads become sellers, I would love to see the Phils add a player like Hader to the pen. Make the strength of the team a level stronger. Start playing 6 inning games and slamming them closed.
