Harnisch was always a bit of a favorite of mine. He was a solid SP and respectable teammate, but was also open about his diagnosis and struggles with clinical depression during his professional career, something that was a rarity at the time (and is arguably still stigmatized in society today).
I was diagnosed with clinical depression and anxiety as a teen, and still manage it to this day. There's no magic formula, just a training of sorts to catch and re-route your thoughts when you find your mind meandering down a darker path. Some days go better than others, but as long as you don't give in to it there's always a light at the end of the tunnel.
Harnisch was also involved in what is largely considered the worst trade in Orioles history: in 1991 Baltimore sent Harnisch, Curt Schilling, and Steve Finley to the Astros for Glenn Davis. The 'Stros were for sale at the time, and looking to get younger and cheaper. They got three guys at the beginning of 19, 80, and 44 WAR careers respectively, while the Orioles got a 30-year old Davis, who over his next (and final) three seasons played in 185 games, slashed 248/ 312/ 400, and yielded 0.7 WAR.
