Well, they kind of did get good overnight! Nobody thought this team was really anything until after the All-Star break, and finishing the season 14-17 (while many fans started thinking football) surely didn't help. Plus the teams' biggest attraction wasn't in the line-up all the summer, and they finished with a long road trip. Had there been more games after those last two against Atlanta (great weekend crowds), or any sense that a home playoff game was even going to be possible there would have been more interest down the stretch. Instead most people (including here) still half-expected them to miss the playoffs.
And the sellout streak from the last golden era didn't start until July of 2009. Expectations and excitement were also much higher in 2007 ("the team to beat"), compared to four years of disappointment and three years of a pandemic heading into this season. The team was also still on its CBP honeymoon to some extent.
As we've also discussed, Philly's not really a town that likes a rebuild (the Trust the Process people aside). 2015-2018 was a lot to come back from.
I bought partials (having just moved back to Philly) knowing I'll probably end up eating or giving away a few games, but it will be worth it if they make the playoffs again. Didn't we used to have a ticket exchange/sale board here, come to think of it?
