I am not surprised. In the end Thomson isn't different from any other manager when it comes to rewarding veterans, and like Matt W. said on Twitter (and andy just mentioned as well), if he (or Nelson) actually gets in a game the series is probably all but over anyway. You just have to feel bad Nelson didn't get the same loyalty (but he's really not that good either, especially more recently).
The other x factor is extra innings, which is also probably why they wound up adding all six starters (especially with one possibly opening for Suarez). If they do end up in a 12-inning Game 3 there's probably no good answer (assuming the better relievers have been used and Wheeler doesn't go back out there).
I just hope if he does end up in a big spot Gibson can somehow pitch like he did in August and not what we saw in September. And that the defense doesn't let them down. Not many people picking the Phillies in this series and defense is probably the biggest reason why.
