The 2022 regular season has drawn to a close, and our Phillies are headed to St. Louis for the National League Wild Card Series. Let the games begin!

So, do we know whether Game 3 could be moved depending on how many games get played. I mean, I'm sure the prime time slot has priority but would they really want two games (against NBC football as well) in the same slot if they don't have to?

(Of course it won't matter because Phils in 2 )

Pretty logical that the networks would fill the 4:00 and 7:30 slots above all others.

everyone stating that the Phils have a good advantage with Wheeler and Nola lined up to start has me hoping. It is not a given but if neither of them throw up a clunker, I think they win in 2. we'll see.

Pretty cool that any possible Phillies game 3 will not conflict with the Eagles game.

For a 3-game series, I'd take a 5-man bench over 13 pitchers. If they go with an opener in game 3, it has to be Thor over Gibson. Can Falter switch back to relief duties? He has done well as a starter and yesterday was a clear indicator he will be in the pen; I just don't want to count on a youngster being able to flip the switch like that in this do or die series. Will Suarez be ok coming in after an opener?

Stubbs, Vierling, Maton, Sosa is the bench for that one extra run, that one extra stolen base......

IIRC extra innings are reverting back to old school, therefore I think the extra pitchers are there incase needed in that format.

Quintana is starting game 1 tomorrow. Iirc, he pitched well against us when we faced the Pirates. He often doesn’t last more than 5 innings though. Seidman said that Harper and Schwarber are a combined 1-12 off Quintana. We should probably try to work counts and get him out of there. Vierling should probably start in CF and switch to Marsh later in the game. If Sosa is/was available, I’d probably start him over Stott.

Viering already confirmed as starting CF. Sosa probably isn't available to take on that large a load, if at all, but we'll see.

I have posted this idea a couple of times!

If Dave Dombrowski has any flair for the dramatic, he will walk into the visitor’s clubhouse at Busch Stadium around noon on Friday and bring John Middleton with him and together announce to the 25 members of the Phillies’ roster that Thomson’s title no longer required the word “interim.” Life isn’t a Tony Danza movie, so it probably won’t happen. But the Phillies have spent all season benefiting from Thomson’s unique ability to remove pressure from their shoulders. Why not return the favor?

The only Tony Danzig movie I can think of is Angels in the Outfield, where Tony wasn’t exactly the star. So maybe that’s a reference to some other movie?

On the other hand, we do have Brandon Marsh.

Rosters are out. Sosa 4th bench guy. Gibson over Nelson for last pitching spot. Hand and Falter both on it.

I'm assuming Mr. Murphy had this in mind, despite it being the wrong sport.

Reading that Kyle Gibson is being rewarded with a playoff roster spot does leave me with the urge to vomit.

Nelson has really not pitched well lately. I guess the last spot would only be used in a blowout loss and the one thing Gibson gives you is length. Let's hope he is not needed.

Getting Sosa back is good. Still starting Stott I see but defense late for Bohm will help.

I am not surprised. In the end Thomson isn't different from any other manager when it comes to rewarding veterans, and like Matt W. said on Twitter (and andy just mentioned as well), if he (or Nelson) actually gets in a game the series is probably all but over anyway. You just have to feel bad Nelson didn't get the same loyalty (but he's really not that good either, especially more recently).

The other x factor is extra innings, which is also probably why they wound up adding all six starters (especially with one possibly opening for Suarez). If they do end up in a 12-inning Game 3 there's probably no good answer (assuming the better relievers have been used and Wheeler doesn't go back out there).

I just hope if he does end up in a big spot Gibson can somehow pitch like he did in August and not what we saw in September. And that the defense doesn't let them down. Not many people picking the Phillies in this series and defense is probably the biggest reason why.

I do like having 3 LHPs in the bullpen. Falter would only be used in an emergency, but at least that is an option. Assume Hand is used in the 6th or 7th inning. Alvarado needs to be saved for the most important situations (a sentence I would not have typed 3 months ago).
