Herrera isn't actually hitting any better than Moniak in recent weeks (months?).

That's simply not true. There isn't a single month this season in which Herrera hasn't hit better than Moniak. What data are you using? Moniak doesn't have a ton of AB, but has already racked up a bWAR of minus 0.6. Herrera isn't stellar but is at least positive 0.2 bWAR. Moniak would need substantial improvement to reach replacement level.

Herrera last 28 days: .157 BA .204 OBP .157 SLG .361 OPS 13 OPS+

Moniak isn't better of course but if you think he is better in the field it just really doesn't matter. Odubel might get one hit a week that matters and Mickey might make one catch a week that matters (which Odubel wouldn't make).

There is simply no way either is an acceptable options two weeks from now unless Vierling is going to truly be the starter (which he obviously can't be if he's also playing the IF).

Mid year cruise through the minor league stats. Yikes. Nothing really stands out aside from O’Hoppe until you get to Jersey Shore’s pitchers. A few guys have gotten opportunities in Reading but it hasn’t panned out yet.

What is Aiden Anderson still doing in Jersey Shore? He’s dominant there…past time for a promotion. College kid from 2019, 2020 looks to be a year lost to injury. He’s 25, get him moving, Phils.

The Phillies have reinstated LHP Ranger Suárez (15-day IL) and INF Johan Camargo (10-day IL). RHP Mark Appel and OF Mickey Moniak were optioned to Lehigh Valley (AAA) following last night’s game.

I can't say I am excited about Appel, but 7 IP, 1.29 ERA, 4 games seems like there could be someone else to send down. How about Familia getting 10 days off with a boo-boo.

I’d rather have Appel on the roster than Familia, too. At least Appel will get to pitch during the first half of next week, though.

Presumably Romero goes down for Eflin (and would have gone straight to AAA if not for the extra spot, but they are probably glad to get him one look before the break if the opportunity arises. Plus both lefties pitched last night).

Eflin got to 59 total throws between warmup, bullpen and sim game. Thomson said it went well. He was at 92, 93 mph, curveball and cutter looked good. They’re going to re-evaluate tomorrow.

To me, he's got his stuff back, but is still working on the mental side of relieving - that is, SPs tend to pace themselves, RPs have to have an attack dog mentality.

Carroll is one of Top 3 or 5 prospects in the game. Why would Arizona consider trading him?

Yep. We need a legit CF. Waiting to see if Rojas pans out in two more years is just wasting two more years of the team we have. Brandon Nimmo might be a free agent this offseason, but he’ll likely be in high demand. Any trade we make is going to hurt.

Just run Vierling out there every day. His BABIP and exit velo suggest there's substantial upside.

Castellanos and Realmuto look like they're breaking out of their funk, Bohm has steadily improved, Segura will be back in a couple weeks, Harper in September. So they don't need a lot of offense out of CF.

The bullpen is shining and Brogdon is back and Romero on the way.
Segura is back and Eflin should be in a couple weeks.

So the best move may be no move, or something low key like buying Gallo at a bargain basement cost.
