The players who are in Philadelphia mostly are 40-man roster players whom the Phillies would like to keep ready in case they need them: Donny Sands, Rafael Marchan, Darick Hall, Scott Kingery, Michael Plassmeyer, Cristopher Sánchez, Sam Coonrod, Vinny Nittoli, and Tayler Scott.

Back in the country how and looking at posts, happy to see that the eagles are not 1-2. I dvr'd both games and will watch them. even though I know the results, it will be fun to watch. the Phils, on the other hand, have not finalized things. they are really limping home. I know guys are tired and hurt, can they hang on? should the younger guys play more to give the energy? happy that wheeler is back and looks pretty good. I think we are seeing the last of Jean and maybe Hoskins. if they don't make the playoffs, there will be changes made, Someone has to get hot and carry this team. Harper did it last year, let someone else do it. if they don't win this series, stick the fork in.

The hurricane path seems to be getting larger and slower.

It really looks like rain will start in DC on Saturday and continue through much or all of Sunday. They really need to move the double-header to Friday. It would be good to get 2 of the 4 games in over the weekend instead of only 1. Maybe they can push Sunday to later in the day too to have a better shot at that game.

I would not be surprised to see MLB cross their fingers and just hope the Phillies can be up by at least 2 games on the Brewers when the season ends so there is no need to make up the games. Think of the disadvantage for the Phillies if they had to come back on Thursday to play the Nationals.

Slower hurricane probably increases the chances of Philly being rainy also. Obviously these things like hurricane paths can change, but the one obvious move seems to be playing two on Friday before the rain gets there.

Meanwhile.... I think people are probably too hard on Aaron Nola inning-to-inning and game-to-game given the individual season he is ultimately having, but this would be a good night for a flat-out stopper/ace performance. Of course it would also be a good night to score seven runs.

Thor has not pitched since the 21st so he could easily be moved up a day if the double-header is moved up. Plus they'll add Sanchez as the extra arm anyway to back him up. Not that I am confident in either pitcher, but it is not like the Nats have anything better either. There was some talk that we would see McKenzie Gore in a rehab appearance Saturday though I imagine they would scrap that in wet weather. The Nats really want to show Gore off if even for only 3 innings because he was one of the big pieces in the Soto trade and has not pitched yet because he has been hurt.

That kind of messes up the preferred travel scenario with the #6 seed (assuming the Phillies make it into the playoffs).

It would mess up a lot of things. It would also mean the Phillies played, well, about as poorly as they have in Chicago (as I assume the game is not played if they've clinched).

Today is pretty much a must win. Gotta stop the bleeding. We have 4 games remaining against the Nats, but the Astros series looms as well. The Brewers have Miami and Arizona for 6 games. They’ve gone 3-3 against them earlier in the season.

It certainly is. They are probably not going to sweep the Nats, but take this one and get three in DC and things are still fine. They are also lucky - not that it has technically mattered in the Cubs series - to have the rotation lined up to where Nola or Suarez should be able to pitch the clincher. But if they haven't by the last game - especially if a Nats game gets rained out - Wheeler almost certainly gets involved.

It does look like they are going to move the DH to Friday. Then single games Saturday and Sunday but nobody expects that to be possible on Saturday.

I am sure there is a cost to all of this (i.e. the Friday game would have like 2,000 people there mid-day), but it is not as if the Nats are bringing in more than a handful of actual fans to any games lately.

It is probably important for the Phillies to do well tonight and hope they can sweep a double-header to take a little pressure off them in the Astros series. The Nats are just not a good team these days. They will not throw any decent pitchers at the Phillies (starting pitchers). Sweep these 3 games and any weekend pause will be less harrowing if they can't play Saturday and Sunday.

I know they are much worse than the Cubs and the Phillies for whatever reason have simply not handled the Cubs and own the Nats, but hard to count on anything right now!

Is there any scenario will the weather hasn't hit Philadelphia quite as fast and they can play a game there?
