I'm not sure I believe this but the eminent Reds writer Hal McCoy reports that a fan has successfully gotten her bank/credit card to reverse the charges on her season tickets, since she purchased them before the team began tearing apart the roster.

OF Seiya Suzuki's deal with the Cubs is massive: five years, $85 million, as @Ken_Rosenthal reported. It's the highest number for a Japanese position player coming to Major League Baseball and the second largest behind Masahiro Tanaka's $155 million contract with the Yankees.

I don't understand the Braves management. Sign Jansen for $16M, a guy that has had his moments of mediocrity as well as health issues, and trade for Matt Olsen, who will get $15M this season moving up to $21M in the near future, and let Freddie Freean go to LA on a $27M per contract. Makes little sense to me. Why not just pay to keep FF and the prospects.

I get the argument for Olson over Freeman. Just as good (overall, the last three years) and much younger. Cold, but having seen the Phillies keep their stars for way too long, I get it.

That price for Jansen is a bit surprising though. People still pay for a big number in the "saves" category. But certainly the Phillies' unwillingness to do that hasn't paid off for them either.

Seems like that front office gets the benefit of the doubt in any case!

You're kidding about Olson and Freeman being just as good aren't you? FF, five time AS, MVP, GG winner and Olson, one time AS and that's it. Freeman will be missed by the Braves more than they ever imagined. He is a team leader on and off of the field.

It's the future that matters, not the past. Olson is younger and had 5.8 WAR last year. Freeman had 4.7 WAR last year.

At this point Olson is the better defender and his offense should not start to really regress for a couple of years. Probably a bit better than 50-50 that Olson is better next year, but more like 70-30 or 80-20 in 3-4 years.

Right, Olson was already better in both 2019 and 2021, while Freeman's MVP season (and Olson's down season) was the small-sample year. And he'll be a better 1B for longer. We're not just talking about a guy who is one or two years younger here either.

Totally different story if the Braves hadn't gotten the extension done. But the real sad part is they can afford to lose the prospects.

There is an age difference between the two players but not a pronounced one. Stats from the AL versus the NL have to be weighted differently due to the AL having the DH. It costs pitchers with their ERA and benefits hitters with their stats. I'm not indicating that Olson isn't a good player but Freeman is probably on his way to the HOF. Just a hunch but I suspect that the Braves will decline from this point forward. Freeman was the stick that stirred the drink on that club.
