Just my two cents here. I think what the Mets are doing will end up being sheer lunacy. It reminds me of what the LA Lakers did this past off season, with terrible results. I simply believe you can no longer just throw money at 30+ players with long term deals and not have it become an albatross around your neck fairly soon. These are not the Mets, they are ex-Cubs, ex-Dodgers, ex-Athletics and even worse, hired guns. It simply does not work in today's modern sports. The players, knowingly or not, have little incentive to play as hard as they did when they were coming up and have no rel allegiance to the Mets, absolutely none.
Oh, they will say all the right things at their press conference but in this day and age when a hangnail gives you a week off, I think the Mets are headed for disaster. Look, I am not suggesting not to go for a Story or Hader or sit out free agency, selected players can and will make your team better. But to do what the Lakers did and what the Mets are doing now is to me a recipe for disaster.
Count me as very skeptical and unafraid of the Mets right now. I will be shocked if their clubhouse isn't a mess by August.
