I've been trying to talk myself into Benny Montgomery as the idea of a HS position player with a questionable hit-tool is less than appetizing. If you look at video of him last year, you see a tall and skinny kid. The first thing you notice about him this year is his frame is getting broader and stronger- he's going to be jacked in a few years. Hunter Pence- kind of strong. He gets plus grades for power and arm, and plus-plus for speed. He's physically gifted in the same way that Mike Trout was in highschool (though Trout was more of a RB body where Montgomery is a WR body), with the same question about how he's going to hit against better competition.
The unknown to Joe-fan is what he's done this year to improve his game as there is little to no video of him in 2021. If you watch his 2020 Perfect Game video, you see him making contact against national competition, but not exactly killing it. Sometimes he changed his swing (no leg kick) I guess to try to catch up to a pitcher he wasn't timing well. That version of him I wouldn't be interested in. But maybe the year older/stronger Benny Montgomery is can handle tougher pitching. Only the scouts can guess that.
