I think we have seen every viable arm in Lehigh that is actually ready, AF. Jones and Cleavenger can maybe contribute if there's an injury or someone else flames out, but they aren't truly ready, and there's no way four weeks of fake games has gotten them ready. I think the only remaining MLB-ready arm who hasn't already pitched for the Phillies this year is JD Hammer (and De Los Santos). Then you've got Llovera, Sanchez and Medina.

None of the above seem like untouchables to me, tbh.

None of those arms also seem like they would add quality to the current roster. They could show up as injury replacements, but Suarez is the only arm down there that seems likely to have any non-mop up role.

They are likely holding off on announcing any Suarez move to see what else they do today. Bruce is also eligible to be activated today with Neil Walker being the logical roster move for him, though one the Phillies might want to postpone a bit.

Yeah Scott Lauber suggested they could send down Haseley, I don't know if he just forgot about Walker or hadn't really thought it through. It always seemed obvious to me that Walker or Gosselin would go when Bohm came up, they just haven't had to do it yet, and obviously Gosselin isn't going anywhere.

I do think Gosselin has reverted to being a 700 OPS utility player the last couple of weeks. Not sure whether he or Walker is more valuable to the team since the lineup (especially after Bohm) is right-handed heavy. I think they delay Bruce a few days to evaluate how everyone is doing.

It does seem a bit odd how hesitant they have been about using Haseley more. They are just not using him against any LHP. Last night they had Gosselin in left to give Cutch a DH day. They could have done that (the DH day) against a RHP and had both Haseley and Quinn in the field that day. Left field defense is not that important, but Haseley is much better than Gosselin at it.

But Walker has a .484 OPS, which I think cancels out his value as a switch-hitter. It's true he hits as a lefty better, but the bench is sufficiently balanced (Haseley and Bruce LHB, Kingery and Gosselin RHB, Knapp SH).

Really though, this just makes the case for going out and getting a bench upgrade. Gosselin's magic run is over, Bruce could easily get hurt again, Walker's been awful (and he got his 10-year pension, so congratulations and good luck).

I assume Gosselin and Walker would clear waivers too, unless teams get more aggressive once trades are no longer possible. I wonder if Garlick will survive the next two hours.

Apparently the Florida Marlins are very close to landing OF Starling Marte from the DBacks

Deal is done. And Marlins have traded Villar. And Indians just DFA'ed our old pal Domingo Santana (we don't need him either).

The strategy of simultaneously trading and re-stocking is new for the Marlins. Could be a sign of smarter management. Marte is probably going to be better for them than a Cody Dickerson signing was. At the same time they rotate other assets like Villar to keep their farm system loaded.

There could be a pitching-first contender in there sometime in the next couple of years.

Santana never quite turned that corner, did he? In 2017, it looked like he was going to become a really good player. Unless he's going to be one of those late-bloomers, it looks like he is just a serviceable MLer at best.

Don't like that at all. One of the points about Haseley and Moniak was that they had somewhat similar profiles. That means trading one of them might make sense. But both?

If it was me[and its not] I would shoot the works and go for Hader. Yes, it might cost Haseley, Moniak and a couple of other prospects but lets be honest, is there any guy in the minors right now that would cause you to say [in my words!] "no, no, 1000 times no. The Dodgers are an absolute juggernaut now and its going to take a big move by a NL team to beat them in the playoffs. Phils always seem to try and improve on the edges, I think now is the time to try and bring in a potential game changer...and Hader is sure that. He is also signed through 2023 I believe.

Phelps alone does make sense. $4.5 million salary so we are either giving a significant prospect to have the Brewers pay it. Or we are going over the threshold.

Edit - read that wrong. That is the option for next year. $1.25 this year.

Cost for Phelps was 2-3 lowel minor league pitchers (nobody on the 60) man so just PTBNL

Let's just hope they are both low-level and not top 10. I worry they deal someone like Morales here.

Note - Heyman says 3 prospects. I guess the more prospects we trade the chance we traded a top prospect lessens. One thing we do have in the low minors with 4 rookie teams is lots of volume with potentially fewer places to play in baseball's brave new minor league world.

I seriously can't imagine that we gave up anyone on our Top 30 for 33 year old Phelps who is a FA at the end of the year. Especially since we are giving up 3 guys.

Might depend on whether we are paying Phelps' salary. This might be the Brewers buying a better prospect so we stay under the luxury tax.

I guess I hope there was a little more money coming from Boston that we had banked to make this type of deal. Remember there was a PTBNL or additional cash mentioned in that deal.
