Yes, we read rumors daily but until a deal is made, its just a bunch of rumors.

As to who has the best offer, that would depend on how the O's evaluate the offered talent. What we may think is the best offer might not be the same as they see it.

I would not be surprised to see the deal completed the day after the All Star Game.

Well, my gosh, isn't that what this thread is entitled?? Trade deadline rumors/speculation. It is so frustrating to start these threads, which in the end are one of the most enjoyable aspects of online sites anyhow, and then see people almost scoff anytime something is posted.

Not sure its that much different than our Top 30 prospects lists, in the end they rarely turn out the way we expect but its part of the enjoyment of being a phan.

Look, do I necessarily think DeLosSantos and Medina are going to bring us MM? No. But isn't it a wonderful thought that we may actually get to witness 42,000 fans nightly later in July when Utley returns and faces the Machado led Phillies? I think so.

Sure, its more likely that the Machado/Utley led Dodgers will face the Phils in late July but until/when MM is dealt to to the Yankees, Dodgers or Brewers, I will continue to hope against hope that maybe, just perhaps MM ends up a Phillie within the next week to 10 days.

And still be adult enough to understand they are simply rumors...trade deadline rumors/speculation.

Not sure who you are saying is scoffing at things being posted. I don’t see one post in here that scoffs or discourages discussion about trade rumors and our thoughts on them.

If you are referring to my particular comment - I asked the question because i am genuinely curious on how these negations with multiple teams work. It is interesting to me that it is reported that the Phillies upped their offer but the Dodgers and the Yankees lead. Does that mean the Phillies said, “Ok what if we add this to the package?” Then the Orioles responded with “That’s closer but the Yankees and Dodgers still have a better offer.” Or does it mean they just said thanks we’ll consider and then leaked to the media that we upped our offer but the Dodgers and Yankees still lead. No where to I scoff at the rumor or the discussion.

Yea I think the O’s just told us that our new offer didn’t beat out the Dodgers or Yanks offer. Negotiations are ongoing and I expect several rounds of new offers before the trade occurs.

I expect another offer from us, maybe several. We have an owner hungry for a championship and wants to give it a run now.

Patchmk88...naw, wasn't referring to you, sorry if you thought so. As for your question, I believe tom81 had it about right. Its a chess match, and it never hurts to include Dodgers and Yankees as two of the main bidders, ever if they aren't.

I also agree with LoneStarPhan, this could happen Wednesday/Thursday. Team that acquires MM want him for as much of the season as possible and so it makes sense for O's to try and move him post ASG.

By the way, just on a personal note...I am not sure the Phils will get MM but I was pretty sure it definitely wouldn't happen till the Phils completed their Baltimore visit yesterday. Angelos is a strange charector and I simply did not believe he wanted MM coming back so quickly after a deal. I also believe he will do everything possible to move him to the NL, and especially not to NY.

More rumors flying. CD it’s somewhat like a poker game too where you can use your resources to enhance your probability of winning the pot. We have lots of Minor league talent, and the ability to take on more salary than either LA or NY. If Middleton really wants him I believe he will get him.

Phillies are said to be making some progress in Manny talks with O’s. Machado is a great fit, and Phils people know MM best (after the Orioles). Plus, word is Phils owner Middleton is thought to want to “make a splash.”

We don't know what is being offered by the Phillies or other organizations. It seems like the O's want a MLB ready SP (EDLS, VV, or Pivetta?) a top minor league pitching prospect (Medina?) and fill ins for Machado for the IF (Crawford and Franco?) Frankly, IMO, that would be a massive overpay for a player that is not secured for the future. If Britton was thrown into the deal that would be nice but he too is gone at the end of this season as a FA. Keep in mind that if these guys go to other teams as FA, the Phillies do not receive any DC compensation.

The weeks leading up to the July trade deadline and the week of the winter meetings are two of my favorite times of the year.
Those who have been around for awhile will recall some of the frenzy of activity of these boards that occurred around rumors of the Phillies getting a big name player in trade. Often these did not come about but occasionally something does happen. I especially recall some of the threads when the Phillies were trying to trade someone (Schilling, Abreu, to name two).

I recall the winter meetings in 1979 and staying up late to watch the channel on our cable that showed typed cards with news and sports headlines flip by (while music played in the background), waiting for any possible action coming out of the winter meetings. I also recall trying to pick up the Philadelphia radio station in upstate New York to hear talk about the signing of that free agent catcher and now I don't even recall his name. I think he had played for the Tigers.

It wouldn't surprise me if MM and Britton were in the deal together. Just wonder if the O's really went over the top and tried to add Adam Jones to the trade as well. It would get rid of three of their potential FAs and shave $20 million off of their payroll-what's left on MM's $16M; Britton's $12M and Jones' $17,333,333M. Money is going to be a thing for Baltimore today and in the years ahead. They're going to be bad for a while. Davis is going to cost for $21M for four more years. Probably no one would take on that contract. Cobb is good for three more seasons at a bit over $14M per. Sad times down there.

Why do we want Britton? He's awful. He's walking almost 5 batters/9 IP this season and giving up homers at an historic rate (SSS warning). Seriously, I think he's toast. He could cost us more games than Machado wins for us. NO THANKS.

As far as I know Britton has given up runs in 2 of 13 appearances. They are also the only 2 appearances where he allowed more than 1 base runner. Are most of these appearance Luck if he is really toast?

He's walking a LOT of guys, not striking many out, and getting lucky on BABIP. Sounds like he's dodging the raindrops a bit. I think the Orioles are trying to trade who he was, not who he is. I don't want to "win" that sweepstakes.

I don’t think you understood the intention of my post. I was literally asking a question on what people thought the process was. I was not saying that the Phillies did anything wrong.
