2018 Eagles Draft

Seems that the consensus of the many mock drafts is that the Eagles end up taking a RB in the first round, or possibly with a short drop to an early 2nd. Michel or Guice. I'd be fine with that although also like the idea of dropping to the 40's if the could end up with Gesicki from Penn State.

Most common name I see associated with the Eagles is OT Ch. Okorafor from West Mich as a 4th, and also PJ Hall DT from Sam Houston as their other 4th. Think maybe Hall goes a bit earlier.

Mayfield at #1 to the Browns. Browns might manage to come out of the draft without Barkley or any of the top 3 QBs despite having the #1 and #4 picks.

Yup...Barkley goes #2 to the Giants. That scares me as an Eagle fan. Elliot and Barkley in the same division..our run D better be fantastic.

Buddy of mine is a Browns season ticket holder. Hes been living here for a couple of years but will be going back over this summer. He is pretty distraught right now.

Suppose this is solid payback for dropping 20 spots. Balt has 3-1 (#65 pick) this year and that is what I was expecting to see in the deal. But waiting for a 2nd next year also has some money benefits this year and I wonder if that wasn't a consideration also with all the restructuring of contracts we needed to do this year.

The #65 last year (Ogunjobi) signed a $3.9M contract for 4 years -- so around a $1.0M contract annual amortized price tag.

Looks like they will defiantly get better players in the draft tomorrow.

Draft is supposed to have good depth so the trade makes sense.

Gesecki would be a good Burton replacement at #52. If Mo Hurst lasts that long, he’d be great - with Cox getting double teamed he’d be a terror on passing downs. An OT would help but seems like a down year for that. Do not want to see them pick a running back until at least the fourth round given Ajayi and Clement -Bo Scarborough In the fourth round would be ideal as a power compliment.

I don't think he should be. I think the Browns did pretty well and I think they are set up to get a pretty good player tonight (Will Hernandez, Connor Williams, Josh Jackson, Harold Landry, Guice, etc.). Maybe Mayfield is a bit of a moneyball pick, but that is a good thing. He was really top rated with regards to a lot of stats and situational stats.

As far as being scared that the Giants got Barkley, I don't think we should be. Yes, Barkley is a great talent, but you simply don't take RBs that high in the draft because of cap implications. The Giants had the #2 and have an aging QB. Them not taking a QB, or trading down, is a huge win for the Eagles. Odds are they will be bad without a future franchise QB on the team and will need to be bad in order to get a better shot at drafting that franchise QB. Having a rookie who is already one of the top paid RBs in the league is not good when you could get a franchise QB on a cap-friendly deal for 5 years. If the Giants traded up in front of the Eagles to take Lamar Jackson, then we would have had a reason to be scared.

Interestingly Gesicki is listed by ESPN as the #20 BPA remaining, although that seems a touch optimistic to me. The only place I would disagree with your names is with Okorafor who I think would be a pretty significant stretch. Don't dislike Okorafor but not that early. I'd probably substitute Harrison Phillips from Stanford, who I think would be pretty effective in a DL rotation.

If Gesicki isn't there I'll throw one possible name out for round 5 and that would be Allen Lazard from Iowa State. Played WR in college but a big, physical, athletic possession kid who probably lacks separation, but nice short route runner especially in the red zone and, like Gesicki, competes for the ball well. Think the success Burton had may cause Pederson to look for somebody to keep that role in the playbook and I think Lazard would be a nice fit.

Did the Eagles just give up a 5th round pick just to jump in front of Dallas and steal their player? If so thats pretty funny regardless of whether hes any good. David Akers speech probably stings a little for the locals too.

So the Eagles end up with just one pick (TE Dallas Goedert) on the first two days of the draft. With two trades, they basically traded picks 32, 132 and 169 for picks 49 (Goedert), 125 and Baltimore's 2019 2nd round pick.

They got the best TE prospect in the draft, snaked the Cowboys (who were surely going to pick him what with Witten suddenly retiring earlier in the day) and David Akers actually did s really good job announcing the pick.

Assuming Howie makes no other moves, they have 4 picks for day 3; two 4ths (125, 130) a 6th (206) and a 7th (250).

Hard not to like the Goedert pick at 48. Think I would still prefer Gesicki but Goedert has the rep of being the more complete prospect, so had he been selected at #32 I would hae liked the pick there. So bank a second for 2019 and it is hard not to like what the team did.

Always hard to fathom paying a 5th pick for 4 slots in the bottom of the 2nd round but it is right off the trade charts so it is what it is. Seems Howie wasn't going to take the chance of losing both a BPA and need pick ala Cook last year, and there was too much risk of Dallas doing Dallas so again, can't fault that trade either.

i didn't see the pick live, but saw the replay. Davie, my boy, you will never pay for a drink at my house anymore. THAT was an announcement. Kudos to you. plus they got a pretty good player also.

Thought it was a good move to get Goeddert last night. Couldn't care less about the extra 5th there. Thought TE was a real need and this guy should see the field this year for us.

In hindsight I agree... the 5th rounder wasn't crucial. I thought it might have been an overpay at the time, but if Goddert is a real red-zone weapon and can stop dropping passes I'm in.
