It might have been a slight overpay but as this roster is presently constructed, I think a 5th rounder is going to struggle to make the team, let alone get activated on gameday.
Ok, Squire, given how it's played out, who are you taking this round?
Here were your choices yesterday I think:
Hines, Ballage, Cain, Crosby, Hurst, Hamilto, Griffin, Jewell
?
Hines, Hamilton, and Jewell are gone I think.
Ballege and taking a chance on one of Crosby or Hurst
CB Avonte Maddox
Slot corner--picking for need. Lawlor loves him. 5'9" but hits hard. 4.39 40 time. Lots of swagger. Lawlor thinks he's a perfect fit for Schwartz. 99% agility rating.
Ballage here I hope. I'm with Squire.

I'd rather have Ballage, also. We need a RB. I'm not even sure we can carry another DE. Really light, but all the other measurable are good. He looks more like a LB.
I've wanted a RB too, particularly one for the future beyond 2018. But there are still a lot of bodies here led by Ajayi and Clement. Smallwood certainly has been a contributor over the past couple years, even though he lost his spot when Ajayi came in last year. There's Pumphrey.
I also still wouldn't rule out a Sproles return.
Do they have cap space for Sproles?
Yeah, they could have space, trading out of the 1st round and only having 5 picks means their draft pool will be less than expected. Sproles won't cost too much, and you can probably pad his deal with signing bonus that won't count against the cap.
But a signing bonus pinches us next season
I don't know why he's still there, but Bo Scarbrough would seem like a nice get to me in round 6.
We get a REALLY big OT. Matt Prior TCU 6'-7" 358# Yikes!
Eagles just traded up in the 7th round to take a 6'7" 346lb rugby player, Jordan Mailata.
Love this pick. Read about the guy before the draft and he was really intriguing. He can hang out with fellow Aussie Ben Simmons.
Who runs a 5.0 forty. DOUBLE YIKES!!
At least it will increase ratings in the 4th quarters of the pre-season games.
Mailata is there at the draft and he is going to join the NFL Network coverage in a minute if you are interested to check him out.
The projected rookie pool for the Eagles five picks is $3,308,037 according to Over The Cap's website.
After Brandon Brooks restructured his contract, it was reported that the Eagles then had an estimated $7,956,776 in cap space, so the Eagles should have approximately $4,648,739 after signing their picks. Sproles contract was 4 mil last year, I suspect you can sign him for 2.5 mil this year, so I think he will be re-signed.
Just a little housekeeping, in the 7th round, to move up to pick Mailata, the Eagles traded pick 250 plus a 2019 7th rd pick to the Patriots for pick 233.
