Who's your favorite player?

It occurs to me that I don't have one, really. It was definitely Herrera during the bad years, and when Franco got off to his hot start in 2019 I bought a shirsey, as much for aesthetic reasons (it came in grey) as anything, but it was also fun to embrace a longtime Phillies player who looked like he might put it together again. But, alas....

Of course I like JT, and also enjoy Harper's personality, which I wasn't necessarily expecting when he signed. I think I'm putting my hopes on Moniak because I was always a Morandini guy, and it's already fun to hear Frantzke say his name (if still not Harry). Let's also hope that Bohm sells many jersey

My favorite was Herrera too, a rule 5 player who became an all-star at a new position. I have not worn his jersey for a long while now. I was given my choice of a free jersey last year for giving blood and went with Zach Eflin, he is my favorite now. It has been a long while since a pitcher was my favorite player.

Agreed that in the bad years it was Herrera, loved his style of play and his goofy attitude. His jersey is deep in a closet these days. I like a lot of the players on the current team but I struggle to pick an outright favourite. Nola is clearly the best player on the team, but he is quiet. I could pick any of him, Harper, JT or Rhys. I think Bohm has potential to become my favourite.

Not that he’s earned it through his performance, but my favorite current Phillie is Cutch. I always liked him when he was on the Pirates.

I wish I could say my favorite Phillie was Mike Trout...

Mine was Herrera as well! Now it is Rhys Hoskins and it has been since he came up. I'm hoping to replace him with Bohm one of these days.

I am also less likely to have a pitcher as my favorite, though in addition to Mickey it was probably Curt back when he used to post on the Listserv (funny that posting is also what makes him decidedly not a favorite now).

Rhys was supposed to be the face of the franchise but he's just not the stud any of our '07-'08 guys were - reallly, he's like Burrell, except w/o the draft expectations. He also seems happy to take a backseat to Harper and JT.

Eflin's a good choice. The homegrown position player options are few and far between. In fact with Haseley on ice and Bohm and Moniak both in AA at that point, there is literally no position player on the 2019 Iron Pigs who is still with the organization (not counting Quinn who was only rehabbing).

Nola. I have a greater attachment to guys who came up through the farm. Could become Bohm as an everyday guy. So many of my favorite Phillies were 3B: Dick Allen, Mike Schmidt, Scott Rolen. Alongside those guys was generally a favorite pitcher: Short/Carlton/Schilling, although the latter two pitchers are asses in a lot of ways.

My past favorites sometimes included the best player on the team (Allen, Schmidt, Rosen, arguably Utley), but they included some non-stars as well (Eisenreich, Glanville).

Nola definitely. I like pitchers, except relievers, who I see as blowing good games by starters. So Curt, Cole Hameln and Nola. My only favorite every day players was Chase. I named cats Cole and Chase. I’m with A-Town, that my favorites are guys who I followed through the farm system. My current favorite every day player is Hoskins, who wasn’t highly touted, but as worked a hard to make himself a good player.

As much as I also like the homegrown players, I think Werth and Vic may have been my favorites on the World Series team. Of course Chooch also had a sizable cult following. Werth because of his game, Vic his personality. But I am also definitely one of those people who doesn't want ot have the obvious favorite player, or wear the shirt as everyone else. Because of course it could be Chase or Jimmy or Cole. I do have a Cole t-shirt from his no-hitter in Chicago, as I was there.

How could I forget Victorino?

It's ironic/interesting that those two players, more than the core homegrown guys, both marked the end of an era. The 2011 team, while possibly the best of them with that rotation, was still a playoff disappointment without Werth, and they never got back to the post-season without Vic. The attempts to replace both players were also unsuccessful, for a variety of reasons and in many different ways.

My current player would be Nola as well. He may have been a no brainer as a draft pick, but getting to the majors, becoming a #1 starter and then maintaining that is still very difficult. I have always liked his attitude as well - a professional and humble player; not interested in the accolades or media coverage; just quietly effective and reliable.

The current team is a hard one to figure out for me. Outside of Nola (and Eflin whom I do like a lot), it is mostly a bunch of hired guns, mediocre prospects and fringe vets. Hard to get a handle on or develop a real affinity for many of the players. That does speak to where I am as a fan too - after having teams like 2007-11, 1977-83 and 1993 to love - this feels like a transitory roster put together by a FO treading water until the next wave of talent arrives or without any plan at all.

Right now it’s Bohm for me. He could be a great one. Kris Bryant may end up being Alec Bohm 2.0 in ten years. Bohm works at his game. Great approach to hitting and shows well in the field; especially for a guy his size. Have to admit that Bryce is a close second to Bohm. He’s won me over. Then JT.

A family member asked this question of me awhile back and I had trouble answering right away. After thinking about it, my answer was Nola for many of the same reasons expressed by VFK.

Nola is so low-key that I'm always surprised when I hear a little hint of his Louisiana accent, just don't see/hear him talking a ton as an out-of-state fan.

I like Nola but, at the same time, recognize that he does have something of a milquetoast personality.

I also lean a bit toward Realmuto who is both a talent and a grinder.
