Having 6 picks is great, but none are likely to be in the top 10. I'll repeat, the team has no elite young talent besides Michkov on the roster or in the pipeline. Even the highest ceiling players like Bonk and Luchanko are not all that high-ceiling compared to other teams around the league. And picking outside of the top 5 or 10 is not likely to yield any additional. So unless the Flyers are able to bundle to trade in to the top 5, they will only add their usual low-ceiling, "two way" players but nothing in the way of elite offensive talent they are lacking.

I'm optimistic about them acquiring some more assets in March and then making one if not two interesting deals in June. That is not likely to be for a Top 5 pick, but turning a high first and a second into a higher first is possible, as is turning that into a young NHL player.

Gagne, Justin Williams, Giroux, Mike Richards and Laughton were all picked in the 20s. Patrick Sharp and Patrick Maroon were 3rd and 6th rounders. Not all of those names are elite raw offensive talent obviously but you can get it right from any draft position.

Beyond that they will have to do as the Phillies did, which is a trickier thing to manage in a capped league (and really, that is still the story of the organization's 20-year failure). But our next 1C is probably playing for another team at the moment.

or keep all of these picks for depth and sign their top lines when the cap frees up. if your 2-4th lines are all first and second round picks and your top line (plus MM) are free agents they will be in good shape.

It will be interesting to watch. The beat writers seem pretty focused on the idea of the Flyers getting themselves a young center with a long future or a stopgap goaltender now, not unreasonably given the team has shown no indication of wanting to go full white flag.

Their own pick has a very good chance to be in the top 10 especially if they sell.

If they get their hands on a capable goalie it would seem they would be a few ticks better than they are now.

Right. I'm not sure I really want them to, but the current situation is unsustainable for the development of the three goalies and the team. If Ersson is likely to be injured yet again or simply can't play as much to stay healthy they may have to do it. Or at least try Peterson. They should probably trade one of these goalies in March or July regardless.

Yeah...that's the conflict...if they don't add a goalie, they are picking in the top 5...I think that is what they need from a future standpoint.

They have the worst goalies in the league and they're 10th right now, doubt they'll fall any further.
Since Torts set the lines (Nov 25) they're 2nd in xGF%, 2nd in GF/60, last in goals saved above expected.
The special teams have also struggled.

But first get 18 players who can excel 5x5, then fix STs, then find a goalie.

NJ was 8th worst last season, got Hamilton back and traded for Markstrom, now a top team.

To me 2027-28 is the target year to contend, 3 years after the 2025 draft, time for Michkov to mature and the young defense to jell. And Zavragin will come over and Bjarnason will have two AHL seasons under his belt.
I expect Risto and Laughton to be moved before the draft, either at the TDL or June, b/c they'd be 33 in 2027 so not part of the timeline.

As of right now the Flyers will pick 8th and their 6 picks are in the top 45.

I thought the lottery was four deep but just checked and it looks like only the top two spots are in the lottery. Is that correct? I guess my brain was mixing up the nhl and nba lottery, shame because I think the top five of this draft are all comparable in value.

yeah they either win a lottery for 1 or 2 or they pick at their original spot (or 1-2 spots lower, depending who wins the lottery)

Obviously if you're gonna be in it you may as well have more tickets.
