Isn't it because the NHL uses arena's that are booked for concerts, basketball and other uses whereas NFL and MLB pretty much have their stadiums to themselves?

I only know of the Flyers issue with Disney, but it could be. Wouldn’t this also mess up Basketball teams, but they seem to avoid it. Are the Hockey teams that low on the sports list that they lose their stadium to that many events?

Nice start.

All preseason they won the face off battle, all last season they lost it. Lost by 10 (37-27), hopefully that isn’t a sign of the future.

Had a PP Goal. 25% on the season . Much better than last years dead last finish barely above 10%.

PK at 100%. Last years PK was great, they were near the top most of the season and actually had a ton of SH goals. They actually had a period of time (few weeks) were we scored more than our opponents on their power plays.

Michkov looked good at times. Didn’t get on the scoring sheet but he was out there at least. Had some nice moves at times. Missed on an ok shootout chance.

The Flyers control their own arena but that doesn't mean they are going to turn down concerts and welcome longer road trips that make more events possible, especially on weekends. And they still have to accommodate the Sixers too (and the Wings, even!). There are two major shows and a pre-season Sixers game at the WFC between tonight and Tuesday.

I assume they were happy to start the season on the road opposite the Phillies (oops) and Eagles and also welcomed the extra window to adjust to Pacific time and practice (they left on Tuesday and spent a few days in Whistler).

I've never heard anyone say anything nice about the NBA schedule.

It also comes down to television revenue. Isn't the NHL at the bottom? The networks dictate much of the scheduling.

With the Flyers seemingly getting their act together, things almost seem the opposite two years later...

Flyers lose 6-3, it was a closer game than the score indicates, fell apart late, committed a lot of penalties, Calgary's third goal was a 5 on 3 powerplay. Cates was in and Luchanko sat. Foester had a ten minute misconduct penalty and Frost was injured early (he did come back), but the Flyers were down two forwards for much of the second period, you could tell they were gassed at the end of a back to back.

This season is more about development than winning, winning is a bonus.

With Andrae recalled, 14 of the 21 roster players are now 25 or younger.
Draft picks like Barkey, Bonk, Ciernak, Berglund, Gill, et al off to good starts.
3 1st rd picks, both Edmonton and Colorado have serious goalie issues,
3 2nd rd picks, CBJ is going to be awful and Anaheim not much better.

So in 2-3 years this organization is going to be loaded with young talent.
The key are a couple "compression trades" where you package a high draft pick and 2 or 3 prospects for a top young player - once you have quantity, you try to up quality.

I just scrolled through ESPN's list of the Top 100 NHL players.
Nary a Flyer was listed.

That's an indictment. No matter what you think of ESPN as an evaluator of NHL talent, that's an indictment on the Flyers organization.

Well yeah, that's why Scott and Fletcher are gone, and Holmgren politely put out to pasture with Clarke.
They've also changed the director of pro scouting, added a number of scouts, and increased the analytics group.

I find it hard to believe that Konecny is not on a list of the top 100 players.

These lists are always biased toward winning teams and high draft picks.
If Michkov isn't on the list, he'll soon be.

Second and third goals were bad-goalie-play goals, should have been saved or rebound should not have been given up. First and sixth goals could have been saved, but were not "bad" goals. You are right that he has not looked up to the task. SSS though...
