Correct. The 2024 draft is thought to be a weaker draft compared to 2025, so at the worst, we maintain our draft position in a stronger draft and maybe Edmonton isn’t as good in 2025 and we also have a package of 3 1st round picks that would all us to move up for a generational talent.

there's a reason why we haven't won a Cup in almost half a century. Its either they think they're the smartest person in the room, picking some hidden gem, or, they can't draft (and keep) above average talent.

Just finished reading Scott Wheeler's article on the draft in The Athletic. Under the category "Losers" was but one team, the Flyers.

The oilers 2025 pick is top 12 protected, so there’s a pretty good chance that conveys which would give the Flyers 3 firsts and three seconds an extra third, in a very deep draft next year. they tried really hard to trade up into the top five this year and saw how much ammunition you need, and now they have it. If they can pull off a deal next year that gets them an all star talent I’ll be happy. But this is 365 days I’m gonna have to wait and I don’t feel like the flyers got any better after reading Jett’s upside is bottom six center. That’s a skill set you can sign in free agency without breaking the bank, and there was a top 10 talent available to them at 12. Imagine trying to move up next year and you’ve got an extra quality defender in your system that you can move.

Not often you see a team trade a pick for one in the same round but next year and get nothing else. I realize the thought is that it is most likely not #32, but still we should have gotten at least a 3rd round pick also.

I don't see any official post (doesn't mean there isn't one, just that i'm bad at the internet), but it looks like the Blue Jackets officially made their 2nd round pick meaning the Flyers officially have the Blue Jackets 2025 second.

I agree, whatever the Oilers pick is in 2025, even if they win the cup, will be more valuable than the last pick in the 2024 draft because its deeper. It also has more value to the Flyers if they are trying to trade up to get a stud.

Flyers trade the 77th pick (3rd round) & Minnesota's 2025 3rd rounder (acquired last night) for the #59th pick in the draft in order to select D Spencer Gil.

We’ve got York and Drysdale who are in the same mold.

Briere said the same, but Drysdale hasn't been healthy to this point and I don't think you pass up value like that.... just draft the better player and figure it out later.

That being said, I am curious how Zeev graded out among teams. Great hands/awareness/passing, but not the best skater and his shot is average.

Because it is a year later. Picks in the future have less value than current picks, pretty much in every trade in all leagues except this one.

Yes, it probably moves up, but most likely Edmonton will be very good. If it is 32 again then it was clearly a bad deal. Even 29 would be a lost bet.

Yea, a reach and a not so impressive trade in the 1st round kinda made this Briere “did what he wanted and didn’t care what others said” .

My guess is that they keep pushing the upswing of this build (it isn’t a rebuild) back. I was hoping the success of this season was going to inch the timeline forward, but Briere continues to build for a 2028 season that he may never see as GM.

It is going to take a LONG LONG time to become a contender this way. We pushed the timeline back again in the last two days. Maybe it was necessary, but I don’t think Briere realizes that no matter what he hears from the ownership they will get tired of losing long before his build is complete. We may look back at him as someone who put together the building blocks of a good team, but he won’t get to enjoy it if he doesn’t stop pushing back the timeline.

We have to remember that in addition to lacking high-end talent on the roster or in the prospect pool (except for Michkov), they also have a pretty challenging salary cap situation for a few more years on account of bad trades and the franchise's habit of giving 1st line contracts to 3rd line talents.

I want to stay patient, I do. I honestly like what Briere has done, it is just that is like having 3 months of days between December 20th and the 25th. I want it to be faster.

I’m very patient. I don’t think me wanting them to not pick the 25th ranked player with the 13th pick makes me any less patient. Both 2nd round picks appeared to be picked 20-25 picks ahead of consensus rankings. Here’s a crazy comment….if we fired the entire scouting staff in 1975 and just sent a guy to the draft each year with a couple draft guides and picked the highest ranked guy when available….we would not have won any fewer Stanley Cups.

Slight mea culpa. If you look at the Bob McKenzie and Craig Button rankings our picks look less like reaches
