Before the season if you said we’d still be alive going into game 82, we would have all been thrilled. But it still feels like we just ran out of gas with a month left in the season and blew a playoff spot.

Much better season than we thought we would see from them, guys made a case to be part of the rebuild, it’s a shame they ran out of gas but good things are ahead

It's funny that the Flyers pulled their goalie to play for the regulation win not realizing they were already out from Detroit's last-second goal. They could have kept playing for pride and to bounced the Caps.

Once they were eliminated they probably pulled the goalie to secure the twelfth pick without arising any suspicions lol

The real culprit, besides the redwings scoring with three seconds, was the early whistle while the puck was in the air and ended up in the back of the net which would have given the flyers the lead. C’est la vie

A fun and solid season for the Flyers, hopefully the first step in a process of building a legit contender for the Cup.

Briere has a lot of work to do on the roster and the coach in charge of the PP should also be replaced by someone with a strong track record. We cannot afford to be so horrible with the man advantage.

Ended up with #12, #26-32, #51, #77 going into this summer's draft.
Managed to trade Provorov for (2) 1sts (after Walker trade), (2) 2nds, Grans, giving up a 5th.
Got a 5th, 6th and Rizzo (just signed) for Hayes and TDA.
Was in the playoff race until the last game, invaluable experience for a young team.

That was the ideal outcome of this season.

It looks like the first decisions the front office will need to make is about buy outs. That won’t be until after the playoffs are over. Personally, I think next year will be more of the same and I don’t expect any changes. It’s probably best to just eat Atkinson, Peterson, Johnson, and Delauries’s contracts so when we need the money to spend, we have it. I hope they don’t give out big money to a forward already over 30. We could probably do without a “veteran presence” defensemen this year.

I think they keep one of Johnson or Risto, RHD to pair with Zamula/Andrae.
Briere will definitely buyout a few players, need more cap room in 2024-25, and has plenty in 2025-26.

Johnson is a free agent. Aqua meant Johansen who may not be buyout-eligible due to finishing the season injured. It's also possible the Flyers will get additional compensation from Colorado

They have lots of option betweens trades, buyouts and waivers (which would cost them a lot of money next season but get all of it off the books, whereas buyouts save money but still keeps some on the books longer).

Some improvement in tickets sold this season which should cheer the suits at Comcast. As we know tickets sold does not always equate to people actually in the seats watching the games.

Briere needs cap room in 2024-25, has only $3.8M, and has to sign Fedotov, and Johnson or rookie will eat another $1M, but $39M in 2025-26.

So buying out Peterson, Atkinson and Johansen saves $10M in 2024-25 and costs $5M the next season.
Even if Johansen was injured, unless it's career ending (in which case he's a LTIR candidate for one season) he'll be bought out as soon as he clears his medicals.

They have Ellis' $6.25M for the next three seasons, which they can put on LTIR (in summer, can go 10% above cap so it's not needed) but would prefer not to since you can't accumulate cap room during the season if you do so.

Yea I meant Johanson, not Johnson. We need to sign Fedotov and Zamula. I suppose if we need to buyout guys, Atkinson and Johanson are at the top of the list. A buyout of those two would save us $6.6 million for next year, but add $3.2 million to the following season.

Well apparently Johanson is injured, so he can’t be bought out. Next up on the list is probably Peterson.

I think he can't be bought out without his consent is all. If he doesn't want to play for Torts or if the Flyers intend to bury him in the AHL they could still make a deal. But if he can't play it all it's LTIR or nothing. The fact that he's injured is still going to lead to some kind of grievance against Colorado probably.

If and when the Flyers trade Laughton, or maybe someone even less expected, one of these salaries can be thrown into a deal too.

He is only 4m against their cap, and is likely to go to LTIR when the season starts. I don’t think they want to dump salary on another team because they want to buy draft picks, and dumping salary would water down the picks they get in return.

They want to avoid putting anyone on LTIR as long as they can, b/c it allows them to accumulate cap room during the season for use at the TDL. Though if they're up against the cap, they won't accumulate enough to make a difference.
