Ginning had a good game tonight. The Flyers beat the Panthers at their own game.

Ginning was OK, Attard was more impressive, really fits Torts "attack scheme" for D-men, just has to be decent defensively to stick. Great opportunity to give two 24 year old D-men experience.

Flyers will go to camp next year with depth,
York, Sanheim, Seeler, Drysdale, Zamula, Risto, Ginning, Attard, Andrae.
Makes it unlikely they'll rush Bonk.
To move Risto b/c they'd probably have to retain, by waiting a year he'd only have 2x5 left in summer of 2025, and it buys time for the young D-men to develop.
2025-26, Bonk, Sotheran in AHL. They'll see how Grans and Samson develop. And if McDonald leaves college.
They'll also draft at least 1 D-man (deep draft this year) with their 3 top picks this summer.

Wade Allison to predators for denis gurianov reported by Pierre LeBrun

Johnson b/c they must know Drysdale and Risto aren't returning this season.
So Sanheim - Attard - Johnson on the right side, York - Zamula - Staal - Ginning on the left side.

Johnson and Staal can be effective if you don't play them every game or for a lot of minutes, Johnson has faltered at 5x5 but supposedly still effective on PK (i.e. eat a coiuple minutes a game so better D-men can play more at even strength).

Allison has lost a stride due to injuries and is no longer a dynamic player like 3 years ago.
Gurianov has really slipped after a good start to his career, has size and speed, maybe recovers his mojo in up tempo system, but will have to play defense for Torts. At worst, he opens a contract slot after the season.

We also acquired D man Erik Johnson from the Sabres for a 4th round pick. He’ll be a FA after the year. I mentioned getting Lagesson earlier, but it looks like the Ducks claimed him. I’m sure they are way io the waiver claim priority list even if we did have interest in him.

Ginning looked good in terms of his ability to win battles against the wall, using his body and length to shield the puck and start the breakouts. He also had some good hits. I’m not discounting Attard, just that I noticed Ginning more.

I think Gurianov like Allison was in the AHL so if they bring him up he'll be taking somebody's spot. Probably worth seeing what he has though he is still young

I think Lyckserll is going down, Gurianov can skate, top speed 94th percentile, former #12 pick.

Why do they need to send someone down?

Probably want Lycksell to play everyday in LHV, same would hold for Brink if they decide he's not suited to a 4th line role and they want to look at Gurianov on a regular basis.

Yeah they might have roster room but not playing time room. Brink should not be sitting in the press box and they might not want Gurianov to do so either (keep him ready if he's really a depth piece. Plus he's not a 4th-line type guy either).

Gurianov once scored 20 goals in 64 games for the Dallas Stars in 2019-20, and added nine goals in 27 games in that year’s playoff bubble, but has just eight goals over his past 80 NHL games with three different teams. He’s going to get a look on the Flyers’ NHL roster, perhaps as a replacement for Cam Atkinson, who continues to be a non-factor most nights.

That's a below-the radar disappointment this season, incidentally. Not surprising given his age and injuries I guess but if things had gone well he would have been an attractive trade target/difficult decision. Now who knows if or when he'll have any trade value and/or value to the team.

Atkinson was always a hard player to move b/c he's owed $5.75M next season. Probably a buyout in June, with Peterson and Johansen. That would free up almost $10M and move $6M or so into 2025 when they'll have oodles of cap room.

He is implementing a plan almost to perfection. This franchise looked hopeless 2 years ago, now they are at least moving in the right direction. I have no confidence in Torts, but just like Briere he can always prove me wrong.

Well, he had to show he could play again to be moved. The money is not the obstacle, as the Flyers themselves keep proving by taking some on themselves. I think he's probably still a guy you try to keep and trade unless you're sure he's cooked

So you're part of the problem! The Flyers' preference for the Ristos and Deslauriers of the world - albeit in more skilled packages - over the Brieres of the world is what kept them back for so long.

How has Torts not already proved you wrong? He's still kind of a jerk but he's very plainly shown a ton of coaching savvy, whether on the ice or in the room (and always has). The possibility that he would instill a work ethic/overachievement that woulld actually hurt the team rebuild-wise (in terms of draft position) has turned out to be true! But he still has bought in to what the team is doing. It would be a little nuts if he gets a new contract but right now that looks like it will be a choice, not a firing. If this year goes as well as next year he'll surely finish the deal; if not maybe he steps aside for the next guy. Seems pretty obvious he's not leaving the organization.

He might. I don’t like the whole “motivate the guy by berating him in the media” thing, but yes, I am surprised this season. Let’s see if they can close it out and do something respectable in the playoffs. I am leaning towards him being better than I thought…

I can’t imagine playing for the guy. I would want to punch him every day. Of course some very good head coaches were complete jerks​
