Comcast's new plans revealed. Would include a new arena to eventually replace WFC. Obviously this was always a big part of why they don't want to lose the Sixers or have competition for concerts, but either way...

Some development down there would definitely be good. Heck, I'd consider living down there. But would affect a lot of people living between Oregon and Packer and on the other side of Broad. And of course they'll want $ one way or another (if not subsidies tax incentives and infrastructure).

I wonder if the Phillies would - or are -- in on this somehow. They own a piece of the TV network but they're still essentially paying Comcast to use the parking.

Brink also called back up. Good to hear Drysdale wasn’t seriously hurt. It looked bad. Tough game against the Lightning tonight.

I’ve got tickets for Saturday night. Hopefully they get these technical issues solved. I need the music and obscenely loud horn.

They're up, they're down, they're up, they're more fun the Sixers!

I suspect the Phillies are or they will have their own designs on parts of the Complex that they control (the area where the Vet once stood and on the other side of CBP along Pattison). It will be Philadelphia's version of The Battery in (just outside of) Atlanta. That's the new mold the Braves have set...either build a ballpark in the middle of nowhwere and then build a city around it or renovate an existing ballpark and give the franchise control over surrounding real estate to remake the city around it.

I see a silver lining. Imagine trying to exit a parking garage after a sold out Phillies game or Eagles game. This--along with a Sixers arena in Center City--just might drag Delaware Valley sports fans kicking and screaming to taking transit to events. Either way, tailgating will become a memory except perhaps in the lots that the Eagles control.

I don't think the Phillies control any off that land, and it's included in this plan. They already lease the parking from Comcast Spectacor. That was all determined by the city long ago. The article literally compares this project to The Battery. The Phillies might be able to get piece of it but they can't do anything on their own. It does say Comcast will need to work with the Phillies and the Eagles for the more ambitious second part of the plan, but only Comcast can run development.

I am a transportation analyst, and I live in a city where there’s little parking near the stadium. The T is completely packed for Red Sox games, and plenty of people drive anyway and pay$ $50 or more to park. A lot use Uber and Lyft. Limiting parking (which would mean higher costs) would push some people to SEPTA, but I suspect most would still drive.

A lot of fans don’t have great transit options. My family lives in the outer reaches of Delco, and transit would mean a long three seat ride, the last leg of which would be in a crowded subway car, probably standing. Going back after the game would take even longer, if the Regional Rail is running at all that late. Since major league sports fans are skewing wealthier given ticket prices, and especially if you can carpool, a lot of fans will be willing to pay for parking/Uber/Lyft.

This is also the argument against the 76ers arena of course. They say it's going to be a transit bonanza but people are still going to want to drive/park. How much or little depends which part of the 'burbs you are in of course.

The Sixers probably aren't bluffing when they say they will never be a Comcast tenant again. They'd probably have to go to Jersey if Center City doesn't happen.

Yeah, that's definitely a concern for the Sixers in Center City. The transit options are a little better from the east and west, but a lot of people will want to drive. I wonder how well they do in D.C. with discouraging driving to the Capitals/Wizards?

Well my understanding is they are too scared of street musicians to go to games in DC.

All kidding aside, the 76ers have used Boston as the supposed model for their project, but it would probably be a lot more similar to DC. It changed that area for sure but it was not sustainably transformative or able to stave off other forces (including COVID and people working from home still) that leave the area less pleasant to be around. I go there (Market Street) a couple of times a week but when it's time to eat or shop or linger it's not in that area, and a sports/entertainment complex won't be any more appealing. Much as I'm happy to get the heck out of the sports complex and go eat or drink around Passyunk or Rittenhouse, even when I wasn't living here.

The Flyers placed G Cal Peterson on waivers - he will presumably clear and report to the phantoms. Guess the Flyers are not interested in tanking!

Yeah but the question then becomes are they interested in trading for someone or just figure Sandstrom has to be at least a little better.

Rumor is out there that at least two teams - including Dallas - want both Walker and Seeler in the same deal. If that happens at least one if not both of them would still hit free agency presumably, and could come back.

Well, never mind.

Actually a very complicated deal. But considering Walker and Seeler are both cheap, they still have value.

Trade #1 – The New Jersey Devils trade unsigned draft choice goaltender Cole Brady to the Calgary Flames in exchange for defenseman Chris Tanev. Furthermore, the Calgary Flames have agreed to retain 50% of all future obligations to Tanev’s contract for the 2023-24 season.

Trade #2 – The New Jersey Devils trade defenseman Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Dallas’ own 4th round selection in 2026. Furthermore, the New Jersey Devils have agreed to retain 50% of all future obligations to Tanev’s contract for the 2023-24 season.

Trade #3 – The Calgary Flames trade unsigned draft choice goaltender Cole Brady to the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Artem Grushnikov, Dallas’ own 2nd round selection in 2024 and a conditional 3rd round selection in 2026 (Dallas’ own) if Dallas advances to the Stanley Cup Final in the 2024 playoffs (wins three rounds). If Dallas does not win three rounds in the 2024 playoffs, then no additional pick is transferred from Dallas to Calgary.

Jamie Drysdale was placed on the IR, Attard and Felix called up

And Sandstrom which maybe was obvious but still had to actually happen.

Well I think the consensus is the Flames didn't get enough given the overall parameters, but that also probably means the Stars declined to give up a first for Walker. So then the question becomes, who will, and if no one will, do they keep him?

Setting some similar conditions also makes sense because if the team you are dealing with makes it far into the playoffs not only did they benefit more from the deal, but the pick gets worse.

There’s a few more teams looking for defense. I thought I read somewhere the Stars actually wanted Walker AND Seeler in a trade, which we refused. No idea what the offer was, but the Stars may still want another D. We can wait and see who blinks. We can retain money too, so cap hit isn’t an issue…just a good return.

Sandstrom hasn’t been so hot this year, but at least we’re trying someone. I’ve also seen a few sports writers advocating for trading for a back up goalie as I have. Maybe they have time to give Sandstrom a start or two and hope he looks decent. But I’d hate to have the team slide out of the playoffs because our starter gets overused because the backup is inept.

Yeah Hockey News printed that rumor though i hadn't seen that the Flyers rejected it (or even if it was a firm offer, but the gossip was a 1st and a 2nd total for both of them).

Our guys don't make enough money that the Flyers necessarily need to pick up any $ (nor do other teams need to offer more for that help) but we shall see.

I think they will add something, it just won't be anything that exciting. Included in a trade, or for no more than a 4th or 5th rounder. If they miss the playoffs it should be because they were aggressive about selling, not because they lost a few games because of goaltending, so agree there. But I do think if they trade both defenseman (and Staal too?) and Drysdale is still hurt (which makes it harder to do that anyway) and other injuries remain an issue it could get tight.
