Carolina just grabbed Ryabkin at 62 - thought that was a name people here liked at 31 and might have been the kind of player the Flyers should have considered at 57?

Yes, they mentioned some type of issue with his workout for teams that caused him to drop, but the talent is there. I would have been OK with the Flyers taking him.

Looks like Ryabkin is the only player under six foot taken in the second round.

Like AF always says Briere is drawn to players who remind him of himself But they also already have Luchanko, and Zegras isn't huge either.

I think in this round they are just throwing some big bodies against the wall and hoping a few of them stick.

I worry that the Flyers' brass has bought into the “Every team has to built like Florida” meme and are drafting size with that in mind. The problem then is that you are paying a premium because of the increased competition for “tall/big” assets. The anti-Moneyball strategy. Some might call it the idiot’s strategy.

Also, by the time most of these guys are ready to play, the Florida formula might not be working anymore and the league will have moved on.

Stars just took a 5'8" 160 skill guy in the third. You always need a mix. I don't know if it's really a formula, plus it only works if the players are as good as the ones the Panthers have.

I'd feel better about them trend-chasing than it just being The Flyers Way
