Nesbitt was a reach, but I think they see him as a Couts (not peak with G, but most of career) type center, big, smart, two way, won't create elite offense but will have higher value on advanced metrics. He'll need a few years to fill out and polish his game, but at that point I see Couts moving to LW where his lack of speed will be less of an issue.
Center is a premium position, like CF in baseball, true centers are hard to find - just look at the premiums paid at the TDL for 3C types. Loading up and "overpaying" for young centers is a smart rebuilding move, b/c it's much easier to trade for wings - same way it's much harder to find true CFs than corner OFs.
The advantage of two way centers is they make it easier to build lines.
A lot of line play is chemistry, one reason Cates line played above their raw talent level was fit, a mucker/shooter (Foerster), two way center (Cates), playmaker (Brink).
