Would you trade all these picks for Nolan Patrick? Owen Tippett was drafted 10th. Morgan Frost in the late 1st. This is crazy talk.

Have to be careful with those comparisons, they're usually more about style of play than quality of the prospect.

From what I've read, that's a weird comparison, Eklund, maybe might be more like Kane.
Misa is probably going to be more like Marner, fast playmaker who's not a black hole on defense, but doesn't play a physical game.

That's why I see him as a potential trade-up target, if he falls to say #17.
I think Briere would move up for someone he sees as a top 6 center, even more so if Martone is their #6 pick.

He can walk out of this draft with center depth for a decade with 2-3 centers to go with Jett, Berglund and Ruohonen.
Couts and Cates are both capable of playing LW, and Poehling is in his last season if they don't extend him.

Flyers already have a bunch of RWs with Michkov, TK, Tippett, Foerster, Brink.
Pelletier, Grebenkin, Bump, Barkey LH shots.

NHL Potential
Misa has the potential to be an elite two-way center that will affect the game both offensively and defensively. His ceiling is sky-high at this point, as he could be a 100-point player in his prime and also be in the running for the Selke Trophy.

Again...you can understate is amuch as you want...he has the potential to be an elite 2 way 1C.

The Hockey Writers would be way down on my list of sources for the draft.

Misa might become a 100 point player some day, might.

Barkey scored at a similar pace in the OHL once over his mono, including the POs. He's two years older, but was painfully small at 18, even at 20 he's 5'9 170, so it's not a matter of an older player beating up smaller, younger players.

Doesn't mean Barkey will be as good as Misa, but does mean Misa scoring is a positive, but no guarantee that it'll translate to the NHL at a similar pace.

You really do have a habit of pointing out the obvious...Misa may not live up to his pre-draft hype...just like every player.

Scouts and GM's use the best available information to make their decisions.

Misa's scouting reports all talk about the fact he's profiled as a two-way 1C.

His draft year has been the stuff of legend, as he already has hit 50 goals and 100 points, and the season isn’t over yet. In fact, he is the second-fastest draft eligible in the past 25 seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) to reach the 50-goal mark. Only future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane, in 2006-07 with the London Knights, did it faster; he scored his 50th in his 47th game, while Misa did it in 50.

Take a look at Morgan Frost's OHL numbers.

Nope, as usual it is the best team with the best goalie in the league. McDavid and Draisaitl are great, but they make so much it is hard to build a good team around them. Their defense and goaltending is mediocre as is the depth scoring.

All I'm taking away from this discussion now is that you need either goaltending or high-end forwards to win a Cup and the Flyers have neither.

Well, until they sign McDavid next year anyway.

I think the core dilemma of everything here is this: the Flyers will never again (hopefully) have this high a pick and this many tradeable assets. But it's a very good rather than great draft, and they are a year early for the next possible generational player (and they don't overtly aspire to have a shot at him). They got to work with what's there though. There is no right answer to what the best use of the picks is, but they will obviously have a plan/opinion. Hopefully the right one.

I guess in the end the 2017 draft experience would make me a little leery. Had the Flyers picked 6 that year would they have tried to trade up for Patrick or Hischier? Of course 6 in that draft was a bust too (but 3-5 aren't).
