I thought that i read that the sharks are looking for more nhl ready, young players (which could be sweetened with draft picks) - I would trade up for Misa if that was an option.

You could ask would you rather they come out of the draft with potential number one center in Misa or stay at six and trade into 12ish range and get two good players. I think I’d rather have Misa, but Hagens/McQueen or Frondell/Jackson Smith would be nice as well.

I'm just not sure they can actually trade into that 10-16 range. And using one of the other picks in a deal for a player, or to push to 2026 (which would also preserve offer sheet flexibility to use the team's own pick) still an option too. It'll be interesting. I would think that deal doesn't happn until the minute SJ is on the board (or even, they make the pick and then do the deal).

Why not? They have 2 late firsts, four early seconds, and several roster players that could be expendable because they are not part of the long term plan. what would be the evidence that makes you feel like they can’t make a move up? You’ve said in the past it’s not possible to trade into the top five now it’s not possible to trade into the top 16? Why shut down people’s conversations without providing context to the contradictory perspective?

Why wouldn’t they be able to make a deal with a borderline playoff team who doesn’t feel strongly about who is available and would prefer to slide back and pick up several players for the depth instead of making just one pick? The third tier of players is a long list and varies team to team and it’s possible that some teams may be in love with a player that will be available at 23. I guarantee that there were plenty of teams that didn’t see Jett as a top 15 player in last years draft. I just don’t understand being contradictory without providing any explanation why you are contradicting the original post.

My preference would be to trade up for Misa, but otherwise, I'd stay at 6 or trade down to 9 or 10 to draft McQueen and then make a trade to Dallas to get Robertson.

For anyone interested, this is consolidated from a twitter post from Elite Prospects. They identified the players in the draft that have an above NHL Average Skill. I thought it was interesting what each player does well. Their scale is 4-6 is NHL average, 7-9 is High End Skill. The total is misleading because blanks could be average (6) but adds zero.

Everything i post on this site gets shot down without any thought, draft interviews are not helpful (wtf of course they are) it’s not possible to trade up in the draft (based on what?) seeing what skills draft prospects have that are considered elite is meaningless (how so?). You guys broke me, this isn’t the place for me anymore, best of luck to everyone here, best of luck to the Philly teams.

I am not saying it's impossible, just "not sure" it is. Or that it's the best use of the assets. But that depends who is on the board obviously. Based on last year it would probably take at least 22 and 40 to merely move up to 16 or 17. Higher than that probably costs you both the firsts.

Last year the Sharks traded up from 14th to 11th which cost them that pick plus 42.

The Habs moved up from 26 to 21 by including that pick plus 57 a 7th rounder.

It cost the Ducks their 31st overall and and 58 to move up to 23.

Those last two also suggest what the Flyers could do to merely move up from 31.

I guess I just prefer they use one of the picks+ to get a young NHL player, by whatever method.

I think it would be logical for the Flyers to try to move up some of their picks given the volume of picks they have. Whether it is wise to move up from 6 or just to move some of their later first round picks up 5-10 spots is a different questions.

Flyers need both quantity and quality. Since they have so much quantity it is logical to improve the quality. NHL picks certainly don't have as much safety in projection as other sports which pick older players, but I think it is pretty clear that drafting in the top 15 or 20 more often pays some dividends. They should do it for players they are targeting of course and not just because 15 should be better than 24.

I agree with this...if you can trade up for one of the only two ELITE prospects in the draft you give up 6 and the lower firsts...you have the capital to move back in to the end of the first if you choose to.

The ironic thing is 15 is totally available but the Canucks want players. Also kind of funny it's the Canucks given our new coach.

A lot of those rumors are fishing expeditions.

Sharks might move back to #6 (doubt they'd move back further), but probably would want a NHL starter as well as picks, say York.

Misa is a very good player, but realistically, he's not elite like a McDavid or McKinnon. But the team that gets the best player usually wins trades.

It takes two to tango, and a lot depends on how the board breaks, I'm sure Briere will talk to everyone, but trading into the top of the draft, even the top 10, is a rare event.

It's far more likely that he'll package players (he's probably going to move one of his LHDs at some point) and picks to move up with his later 1st rd/early 2nd rd picks. But if the board breaks wrong, he might trade into 2026 rather than take someone they don't really want that high.

Misa profiles as an elite talent...if they are willing to move down and it takes 3 firsts to do it...I think you do it...IF they are willing.

In my defense, it's not without any thought. Elite prospects broke down Eklund and Frondell and inferred that Eklund was the better player. The fact that Eklund isn't even on that list is suspect. It's not your list, so I definitely wasn't criticizing you.
