Well we know something will happen today that will be worthy of talking about…a pick or a trade. Maybe both.

They weren't lopsided deals, Fla paid more to dump one year of Stralman at $5M than the Flyers did to dump 2 years of Ghost at $4.5M a year.

Risto was expensive, but Chariot got a 1st and 4th as a rental, GMs overvalue big, physical D-men.

Now whether those moves SHOULD have been made is a different matter, but Fletcher has pretty much paid market price on all his moves. Just a question whether they've been the right moves.

If memory serves Ghost cleared waivers once, so while his trajectory and the trade return was disappointing, it wasn't unreasonable. Risto was an overpay but I think the ability to extend him (as they did) or not (thereby freeing up cap space) was sort of built into the price (and the Flyers overvalued him even more than the average GM of course).

I was considering (my) values of the players in my assessment, and for me it was not worth taking on Risto. I see the two moves as linked and they got Risto in exchange for Ghost, a 2nd, a 7th, a 1st, another 2nd (in a loaded draft), and Hagg. When the market is established and doesn't make sense, i think its better not to make the move.

I liked the Ellis trade and I think he did the best he could in the giroux trade because his hands were tied to deal with Florida.

Gauthier seems to be a name that is coming up alot and especially now that he's seen more as a Center vs. a LW.

Regardless of his politics it's a serious overpay for an adequate-at-best defenseman In my humble opinion. And his locker room presence doesn't figure to help with what seemed to be a problem for this year's team.

If you're going to put the character issues to the side then it's hard to call him adequate at best...he's one of the better scoring D-men in the NHL

And by any metric I've seen he is one of the worst defensemen at actually playing defense. So he's top 10% in offense and bottom 10% (at best) in defense.

The Hurricanes are receiving a 2022 fourth-round pick (No. 101 overall), a 2023 third-round pick, and second-round pick in 2024 from the Flyers for a restricted free agent. Put this in the overpay/doesn't value draft picks category for me.

Does Fletcher have plans on Fridays? Why does he keep giving away his second round picks, this isn't the NBA draft you can still get talent in the second round of the NHL draft, this is so frustrating.

I get that part but it seems that if he does put those character issues behind him and it seems like he fit in well last year, there are correctable flaws...I 100% agree this was an overpay but if the character part has improved through maturity, he's an ok 2nd line Dman
