Richards is massively overrated by Flyers fans mostly for being a Flyers type of player.

I guess you can say they were the core of the 2009-2010 team, but that team also had a 22yo Giroux, Pronger, Kimmo, Gagne, Briere, and a 20yo JVR.

I liked Carter, but both of those trades were excellent and I don't think it's particularly close.

Damn Farabee just needed a cervical disc replaced. No bueno. My wife blew two cervical discs, had fusion surgery, and has permanent nerve damage from it. Hopefully his shoulder issues are related and alleviated with the surgery.

Again, why did Claude refuse to go to Colorado?? flyers would have had a better haul (reported) and he would have a cup ( not a supporter cup).

You never knew when you pick in advance. I'm guessing it was simple geography. Just comfortable (and closer to home) back East.

Also possible: the Panthers are run by Peter Luukko.

I still don't begrudge the Flyers taking Patrick, any team would have, but just once I'd like to see a Philadelphia team get the less-celebrated player who turns out to be better (i.e. Makar, Tatum. At least nobody in the 2016 MLB draft is a clear star).

Patrick was definitely the right pick and I'd like to believe the concussions were the issue. He certainly had stretches which suggested he could be a very good player. It stings that Miro, Makar, and Pettersson were chosen after him. That being said, I'm not sure I would have taken Makar over Miro.

The good news is that the Flyers at #5 have the chance to get a less celebrated player. It looks like Shane Wright is slipping and Jiricek (who I am a fan of) is rising. I'd be fine with Nemec, Kemell, or Gauthier at #5. Probably in that order, but it's really close.

Flyers Goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov, who earlier this year signed a contract and was supposed to come over and compete for the back up goalie job, has been detained in Russia as a military evader. This is terrible news, I really hope it doesn't end horribly.

Carter/Richards trades were great, then Holmgren blew the shot at a quick rebuild because he wanted to be competitive.

Farabee got the same surgery as Eichel and Tyler Johnson, both returned in 3 months. Looks like it's a better bet than fusion, which has a six month recovery and worse outcomes - but still a small sample size of athletes.

Turns out Torts is actually pretty good with young teams, won a Cup with a young TB team, turned around a young CBJ team, before they let Panarin, Duchene and Dzingel walk, basically triggering a rebuild. His issue is he'll clash with players with entitlement issues (Laine, for example) but even players like Dubois, with whom he clashed, speak highly of him.

He stresses playing hard, but not in the Holmgren/Clarke sense of big guys beating up little guys, but more like what we saw in the playoffs this year, a fast AVs team hounding opponents over 200 feet. He's played his share of smurfs like St. Louis and Atkinson, and doesn't seem to play physical 4th liners who can't skate or score.

I saw this too and I agree with your sentiment, hoping for the best outcome for the man and his family but concerned for him given the way things are going in his home country. This news should not be taken lightly, as he could be facing a prison sentence or much much worse.

"Fedotov is probably safer being deployed to the Ukraine than behind the Flyers defense"

I don’t think the Flyers are one piece away, so I’m keeping the 5th pick rather than trade for Debrincat.

I can't imagine they will. Due diligence, or hoping to steal him. One of the articles linked in there says the return might not be any better than what the Kings gave up for Fiala (#19 pick this year and a defenseman who was taken 45th overall pick in 2020). For the Flyers that would have to be a future first-rounder and one very good prospect maybe?

Debrincat is young, so I would not hesitate to trade the 5th pick for a 40 goal scorer. The big moves they have to make this offseason is offloading JVR, getting Fedotov out of Russia, getting Ellis healthy, getting Couts healthy, playing a lot of the youngsters (Frost, Farabee, Ratcliffe, Brink, Allison, Attard, Tippett, York, Zamula, Hogberg, etc...) and moving any vet contracts that are blocking those youngsters.

They are probably going to have to sign a back-up goaltender for sure now. It's possible the only way his situation resolves is if he plays in Russia. Or he eventually gets here but has not gotten enough off-season work with the team and has to start in Allentown.

Is Provorov in the US? There's also some concern about the simple ability to leave Russia again. Athletic just did a story. Teams and agents encouraging guys to stay, but can't/wouldn't make them.

I would love to have Debrincat on the team, my concern is Fletcher giving up too much value in a trade for him. The Gostisbehere and Ristolainen deals were so lopsided but on brand for this organization. A common theme with this franchise every year is cap trouble because they don't place enough value on younger players and draft picks. You need young players on entry level contracts to offset the overspending on veterans. They seem to have the overspending on veterans part down so half way there!
