I like it less, but I'm not sure what Rubtsov's value is. If this is correct, then it is G, Rubtsov, Bunnaman, and a '24 5th for Tippett, a '24 1st, and a '23 3rd.

If that's true, then it obviously hamstrings the Flyers and it seems like decent trade given those constraints..

Frost should be a top 6 wing and not a center. Provorov is a turnover machine. I like a line of Laughton TK, and Allison. That would seem to be our agitator line.

I still disagree with keeping Farabee (does he have a nickname?... apparently it's Young Beezer?.... nevermind, I'll stick to his name) with Couts. Both are smart, can score, and are good defensively. It's a waste to keep them together. It's also a waste to put TK on the 3rd line. Lindblom on the 3rd line makes much more sense, IMO.

I also think that Tippett, Ike, and Tyson should be projected at some point. Tippett probably needs to be on a top 2 line in order to be effective.

I would think some team would take a flyer on Brassard for later round pick. There’s no reason to hold on to Jones if we get an offer either.

At least one other story confirmed Giroux only approved Florida. But this also has some insight into the rest of the deal.

My understanding, based on conversations with team sources, is that Bunnaman and Rubtsov were simply no longer part of the organization’s plans....

In fact, the 2024 fifth-round pick was included in the deal as a sweetener to get Florida to take on the Bunnaman and Rubtsov contracts.

Bottom line though, Fletcher wanted a player who could help now and over the next 2+ years. Whether he got one is the question.

Why Flyers' return for Claude Giroux from Panthers underwhelming but...

Mayhew was claimed off waivers by the Ducks. Rubtsov and Bunnaman aren’t big losses. It clears the way for some younger players to get minutes with the Phantoms.

I’m surprised Tippet got there in time for today’s game, but he’s looked good. Through 2, he’s drawn a penalty and gotten the puck to the net a few times resulting in Hayes’ second goal although he didn’t get an assist out of it.

I think I read that WE insisted on including Bunnaman and Rubtsov in the deals and had to give the 5th for Florida to take them and it was meant to clear the contracts.

It also clears some roster spots so that the Flyers can add some college guys when their seasons end. Rubtsov and Bunnaman aren't going to make it to the show here.

Sad day to trade off Giroux as the last vestige of the 2010 Cup run and any Flyers success. He was a great Flyer.

The return was expected due to the NMC and Giroux stating he would only go to the Panthers.

Tippett has some potential, but the problems with the Flyers continue to be talent development and coaching.

Hextall actually drafted pretty well, especially grabbing outside of the first round picks like Hart, Lindblom, Kubel, Cates, Allison or undrafted guys like Myers & Zamula to go with Provorov, Sanheim, Konecny and Farabee. Frost still has a chance as well.

Some of these guys have played well for stretches in the NHL, Konecny, Lindblom, Provorov, Hart, Farabee, Sanheim, but have not been able to retain consistency. Some were rushed once Hextall was fired (Hart especially), but I think coaching from Hakstol to Vigneault to Yeo (and the asst coaches too) has been poor for development. Hakstol was known as a developer, but it again was inconsistent. As soon as Hextall was fired, the Flyers wanted to win now. Vigneault and Yeo are veteran coaches who spend less time on development put in charge of a team still developing and not ready to win now.

Hextall was not allowed to tear it all down and rebuild fully. He had to balance stocking the farm which was barren while still icing a competitive team. It was the impossible mission doomed to fail. Now, the Flyers have abandoned even the pretense they are rebuilding. However, due to their incompetence, the team is still not ready and the young talent has regressed these last two seasons. We have other good talent on the farm coming, but until they figure out how to properly develop that talent once drafted, help them transition to the NHL better and have a system worth playing in at that level, the cycle will continue.
