I'm not sure of the current value of G, but Tippett is meh at best. Decent shot, but that's about it, imo.

No, he really is not.

The problem that I see is that TPTB are constantly talking about a re-tooling, but that isnt what is needed. There is not much talent on this team after the trade deadline, we are not looking at a few pieces to get to the top, we are looking a complete build (it isnt a rebuild, because of the re- part, it was never built, this core failed).

That said, I fear that we will take players like Tippett instead of draft picks. We need to build, not re-tool, unless the goal is to get back to .500.

Giroux's value is never gonna be what Flyers fans want. And yeah, the front office is still no more willing to rebuild than they were before Hextall, or when they fired Hextall.

That said, a 23 year-old former 10th pick has value, especially when the teams trying to acquire Giroux won't have picks that high to offer. It's not like trading for a 28 year-old.

He was drafted 5 years ago? That statement means nothing. This organization hasn't found a way to keep a 22 year old 100 OHL point forward on the roster.

EDIT: I should say multiple 100 point seasons. TK and Farabee have also regressed. IMO, Tippett doesn't have another tool than a good shot. Frost can barely stay in the NHL even though he's a better skater, creator, and finisher. I guess I have no faith that the Flyers can turn around a player that has one tool.

I agree 18 year-old raw clay is better than a 23 year-old but the bigger debate there (the subject of bkeich's post) isn't really a debate. At least not while Holmgren, Clarke and Fletcher are running things. Or we'd be talking about the Risto trade this week too.

My argument is that if you can't develop someone as accomplished as Frost, then it doesn't really matter what failed prospect you hope to turn around.

And also the return sucks given recent trades.

I just want to say that I disagree with this and I think bkeich's post touched on this.If you trade for picks, then at least future regimes can help with those picks. Trading for failed 10th overall picks doesn't help when you can't develop current 100 point OHL players.

I don't think we disagree about what the direction of the organization should be. But since that is not the direction they are going in, no, I don't expect them to make decisions that the general manager we wish they are going to have in 2025 can make pay off.

Also I'm not presuming this kid is the centerpiece of a trade (and the story didn't say he was). One of 3 pieces (which is what the story says).

I'm sure there are better teams to deal with than Florida.

I'm sure we'd almost all agree that we'd prefer a scenario that is best for G and the team.
Personally, I'd rather get picks rather than players that were drafted at 1/10 with the veil that their draft status means something. I'm also skewed towards players that can actually skate.

It didn’t seem like he didn’t play much in the last 5 minutes when he’s normally out there a lot.

They should hold vacant the C spot in case of some off season reunion, but I imagine Couturier would be the next captain if not.

No Claude Giroux trade yet, sources say. He won’t play Friday or Sunday, the Flyers will hold him out until the situation is resolved through the deadline. Florida remains very interested. I think Colorado remains in the mix. We’ll see what Friday brings. @TSNHockey @TheAthletic
