Boy are the flyers poor. i don't even think they are mediocre. What happened to the highly touted prospects, that were spoken about a few years ago. Bad development? Poor system for them? terrible.

Different team, same question. See also, Phillies. Did the scouts draft lemons or did the development people fail to make the lemonade?

In hockey it's definitely more scouting, especially since you don't even get to actively develop most of the guys you draft for very long. I dont think anyone blames the Phantoms staff for failing to bring some of these guys to fruition. In theory Hakstol was supposed to nurture a young core but he was also expected to win with the old core.

Nolan Patrick is definitely Mickey Moniak though, except Patrick actually was considered a no-brainer top 2 pick at the time, not one just one guy in a weak Top 8.

The thing is the Flyers used to be pretty good at drafting, and over multiple eras and often with late picks (unlike the Phillies who only got good at it for that one notable stretch by also picking really high).

I hate the Patrick pick because of the players behind him, but don't actually hate the pick. Just unfortunate.

Passing on Cole Caufield is bad. Drafting Jay O'Brien is bad.

Not developing talented players seems like the problem. Even at the NHL level the younger talent has stagnated.

I have totally lost interest and I love hockey.

Several useful players we could see move by the deadline: Braun, Jones, and Yandle should move. None will command a huge return but something decent.

I’d love to move Risto and salvage something from that trade. Trading JVR would be a good move to create some cap space for the offseason.

Certainly the biggest move would be trading Giroux…if he wants to be traded. We should get a good return from a playoff team for him.

The Flyers are in the bottom 3rd of the league in goals scored and in goals allowed. That’s not a recipe for success.

You gotta wonder if they stick with Fletcher, not that any change really matters if the very top is basically the same as ever again. Comcast can't be too thrilled about much they owe Vigneault either.

Wade Allison will make his season debut today, so hopefully he’ll be a bright spot. Unfortunately we’ve lost Farabee for a month.

Hayes and Coots haven’t been themselves. TK and JVR aren’t pulling their weight. Lindblom’s pass for cancer is coming to an end, but his play has been better lately. Frost hasn’t looked like anything special to me unfortunately.

I think their poor defensive numbers are a product of just not spending any sustained time in the offensive zone. When you let the other team spend so much time in your zone, they are bound to get some chances. The game today seems to be built around power forwards but we keep trying to field a team full of skill players.

Can this get more embarrassing? The Flyers gave up 6 goals to the hapless Sabres for their 11th straight loss. At this point, if it was possible, I'd just switch the Phantoms out for the Flyers, could they be any worse.

Unfortunately they gave away their second round pick this year to dump Ghost. The Flyers Brain Trust basically swapped out Ghost for one year of Risto, and it only cost them last year's first, this years second and next years second. Great start to the rebuild.
