Flyers call up Carter Hart! He's not Bernie 2.0 so I hope the Flyers and their fans don't expect him to be Vezina worthy from the drop. I think it is a good time to have him and this young defensive core grow together.

Stolarz with a game that might be then end of Elliot and Neuvirth in Philly. Both of them should be traded for whatever you can get as I think Hart and Stolarz can be the tandem after this year.

Flyers win their 6th straight game. 3-2 over the Bruins in overtime. Don't know how to feel about this. Love the young goalies playing. Sorry to see a shot at the top pick in the draft go away. Hope the success doesn't keep the GM from shaking things up.

Basically it's all about Hart.
Otherwise, the team is pretty much the same group, performing the same way, as they did under Hakstol.
Sanheim is getting 5 more minutes a game, Lindblom is back in good graces after a midseason slump, and Giroux was moved to center to move JVR up in the lineup.
The result is better offense and worse defense, but with Hart in goal, he more than compensates.,

I think what killed Hextall was Lyon getting hurt in August after a great Calder Cup performance, he was the insurance policy for Elliott and Neuvirth, buying time for Stolarz to rehab his knee and Hart to acclimate to pro hockey. When Lyon went down, it was too late to find an alternative.

Not to disagree with your post here but Rick Wilson has made an impact with the way that the defense has improved since he took it over.

Except the team is worse defensively, they're giving up more scoring chances and high danger scoring chances.

Make that seven straight wins with their second straight overtime win, this time 5-4 over the Oilers. Flyers looked like they were in slow motion versus the Oilers speed and skill, but they cashed in on four power-play goals.

I think it was fresh legs v tired legs, and when the Edmonton fresh legs wore out, the Flyers took over the game.
But as usual, Hart was the difference, not his best game but he kept them in it when they were grossly outplayed the first two periods.

The winning streak ends at 8 games, but the point streak continues with a 3-2 shootout looks to the Kings tonight. Stolarz was in goal.

Flyers keep rolling with a 6-2 win over the Ducks. Fletcher makes another minor trade sending Folin and Weise to the Canadians for some similar dreck, but it freed up a spot for them to call up Myers, which they did.

Believe it or not, Flyers now 6 points behind Pens for final playoff spot in the East (Pens have one game in hand, which is tonight at Tampa).

Pens visit the Wells Fargo Center on Monday in a big one for the orange & black.

I believe the record he tied was most consecutive victories before turning 21 and he tied Jocelyn Thibault.

You're correct. When I looked at Flyers.com last night I thought it spoke about the record for "start of his career" wins. Now it references the pre-21 Thibault record, which wasn't a rookie or "start of his career" record. Anyway, when I did a few searches I came across Bob Froese's Wikipedia page which said he had "set the record at the time" with 8 consecutive wins and, between the two articles, figured 8 was still the record.

Seems Ray Emery has the "beginning of his career" record at 9 according to the following citation.

That said, that page isn't dated, and doesn't show a last updated date. So perhaps that record may have been surpassed since 2005. Couldn't find anything on point at either NHL.com or Hockey-reference.com.

So the Flyers traded Stolarz to the Oilers for G Cam Talbot, solid veteran who has worked with Hart in the offseason and is sort of a mentor to him, so I guess that is a good set up, he'll know what his role is. When Talbot does start a game, he will be the record eighth goalie to start for the Flyers this season.

Flyers beat the Red Wings today 6-5 in OT, wild game. Flyers lead 5-1 then coughed up the lead with the tying goal coming with 10 seconds left in the game. Flyers win it in OT though to stave off what would have been an epic collapse.

They are playing so well right now, but they still have to pass three teams 5-6 points ahead of them to make the playoffs...not really very likely. Hart is bound to have a few bad games at his age, and the offense has been pretty inconsistent.

Plus they should still be sellers.

Problem is the entire win streak is Hart, if you look at the team's performance by any other measure, there's no improvement under Gordon v Hakstol. And Hart looks like he's coming back to earth, i.e., he's playing like a good goalie, not a HOF goalie carrying a team on his back.

Fletcher still needs to sell at the TDL and make major changes in June.

Not being sellers is really going to hurt this teams future I fear. We have a chance to get something for some players that are most likely not returning (Simmonds, etc). Honestly, the winning streak is probably a bad thing, it is going to put the interim GM in the position of having to buy not sell, and keep us in the good, not challenging for championship for a few more years.
