I saw "internal options" as more an inaccurate or out-of-date assesment (perhaps based on the Nightengale report). And "industry expectations" basically means he's talked to some people who have opinions and no sources. And since neither of the other candidates (one of whom is internal, one of whom isn't) have MLB managing experience and Farrell is the only known remaining candidate who does, it's a comment that is both factual and insight-free.
Obviously there is not a lot of information out there. What we'd want to know at this point is, did Farrell, coming into the process so late, already meet with other members of the organization, and if not, is he getting a second interview. The only other thing to know would be if anyone else is getting a second interview that we haven't heard about (including, possibly, candidates we never heard about in the first place). But based on the sourced reporting we have, however slim it may be, it's Wathan and Kapler only, and maybe Farrell.
Don't forget these gossip columns/tweets get fed by agents too, if Farrell is after the Nats job it's good to be associated with the Phillies, just like it doesn't hurt for the Phillies to talk to him. Think they asked him if he'd bring Amaro along as 1B coach?
Meanwhile, Matt Stairs to San Diego.
