This looks like a real Phillies line up. Very good chance the first five hitters today are in the team on opening day. Definitely going to try and catch the first half of this game at least.

Dominguez pitches a 1-2-3 top of the third. No strike outs but nothing hit hard.

End of three innings, no score a Spectrum Field. Phillies have the only hit of the game so far, and Pirates have made two errors, but no runs.

Jose Alvarez pitched top of the 4th for the Phillies. Gave up a lead off double. A ground out moved the runner to third. Following a K for out #2, the runner from third scored on a wild pitch. Ball was off catcher's glove and didn't get very far away, but play to the pitcher covering the plate was late. Alvarez went on to strike out that batter for the final out. So double, ground out, K, WP, K produces the first run of the game.

Walding got a hit. Would like to see him have a good spring so his confidence doesn't get in the way of his ability.

End of six innings, still Pirates 1, Phillies 0.

Phillies had
one out double in fourth (Hoskins),
back to back one out singles in the fifth (Brantly, Walding),
and a lead off double in the sixth (Cozens), but no runs.

Good pitching for the Phillies from De Los Santos, Dominguez, Alvarez, Morgan and Medina so far.

Phillies down weakly in the bottom of the 7th; Pirates had a single for their second hit of the game in the top of the inning but followed it with a DP. Rios pitched the top of the 7th for the Phillies.

…. on cue, Gilbert comes in to pitch for the Phillies. Now I have to go look up who Gilbert is!

Actually, Tyler Gilbert pitched at Reading and LV last season. He is a 25 year old LH reliever and put up decent numbers in relief last season at AA and AAA. Interesting note, he pitched 34.2 innings for both Reading and Lehigh Valley.

Phillies tie up the game in the bottom of the 8th on lead off single by Petit, FC out from Gamboa, and double over the head of the centerfielder from the bat of Cozens. Cozens almost caught rounding second but was safe when tag came out.

Second double of the game for Cozens in two at bats.

Phillies pitcher is #99 with no name on jersey, Luke Leftwich.

Jason Martin hit the home run for Pittsburgh.

Listi making some nice plays playing first base this inning. Leftwich gets next 3 outs after the home run.

Moniak swings at all four pitches he sees and manages to foul off one, going down on the swinging K.

Robinson grounds out on first pitch.

McBride homers to center field into the lawn seats. Well hit. Makes it a 3-2 ball game.

Phillies get excellent pitching overall. Only 3 hits and one walk (lead off 9th inning prior to home run) with 11 strikeouts.

Very impressed with De Los Santos and Medina.

De Los Santos was throwing 94-96, has a plus changeup and his breaking ball showed promise, though still a work in progress, If he can improve his command and that breaking ball in LHV this summer, he's a great insurance policy, with a third pitch he's mid-rotation starter material.

Medina throws as hard, and showed a plus breaking ball, struggles a little to locate and overthrew a few, but it has a strong break. Needs to add a changeup, but he's going to be in Reading has plenty of time.

Alvarez has LOOGY stuff, 91 FB, breaking ball, change.

Morgan was throwing 93 with a nice breaking ball, I think he'll beat out Alvarez if he can show consistency.

Rios throws hard, but lack of command will probably keep him in AAA the rest of his career.

With no lefty starter I think Alvarez and Morgan will both make the roster. Pazos is the one with options (along with Davis). It's the righthanders who have to worry, they are either going to have to trade or waive one of the vets or both Arano and Ramos (as well as Rios obviously) will be in the revolving door (assuming Neris doesn't falter and Seranthony doesn't get that treatment).
