Building this team to be the best it can be for the next 1-3 years would entail going out and signing 2 veteran free agents who can shoot, rebound and mentor the young core. I'm of the belief that the opportunity for the playoffs and winning 1 or more rounds is there right now, not several years off. At the same time, having 3 young stars means you are going to have to pay them alot and sooner than you think. The time to be aggressive in FA is now.

Yes, I agree with this and we certainly have the cap space to do this. Given history, if Embiid and Simmons are healthy NOW it would be a huge wasted opportunity not to take our best shot to WIN NOW, since they may not be healthy 2 years from now. That said, it makes zero sense, IMHO, to waste a future first rounder and two current 2nd rounders. We are likely to find that the Sixers need that draft firepower and trade flexibility down the road. This seems just a new leader's trashing of what Hinkie accumulated. It is the same scorched earth approach that the Reid/Chip Kelly/Howie Roseman change in draft/player authority regime changes produced for the Eagles. It materially harmed the Eagles and throwing away those three draft picks will harm the Sixers.

Of all the trades the rockets made today the sixers were the only one to get a pick.

I'd just relax. Odds are the "sales" of 2nd rd picks may be more complex than advertised.
And Sixers are 9 deep with Nick, Anderson and Henderson battling for the number 10 slot. Korkmaz would just make them even deeper.
In other words, unless they sign a serious FA (and no, you don't give Reddick a five year deal), the lineup is set and no 2nd rd pick had a shot.

This team is not competing for a chamipionship without a healhty Embiid, if he goes down, you reset the rebuild around SImmons and Fultz.
If he's healthy, they're a 50 win team without free agents, he's that good, and combine him with 2 #1 picks, Covington, Saric, TJ, TLC, Holmes, Bayless, that's more than enough.

As a younger player, his D was questioned. He can be neutralized by an athletic defender, and EVERY team has a couple of those.
If price was right, I suppose it would be OK, but I'd hold off to peruse the FA market for a bit longer.

Look for some cap eating trades.
Sixers could pick up some contracts and obtain veterans for depth while garnering additional draft picks.
A number of teams were blindsided by the lower than expected growth in the cap.

AF-- The difference this year is that our roster, now probably including Korkmaz, doesn't give us the space flexibility that we have recently benefited from. I don't want to lose a high ceiling young player to acquire an expensive veteran and a draft pick until we spend some time to figure out which and how many of the current roster can be the role players we will need going forward.

I still want Redick on some sort of huge deal in year 1 followed by a buy-out option. He might not agree to that structure, though.

We still have a couple spots, remember, our three draft picks are all Euro Stashes.
So we have three spots with Henderson gone plus two way D league contracts.

No team has more salary cap space than the Sixers.

I know we still have a very young, unproven team, but a core of Embiid, Fultz, Simmons and Saric is impressive by any definition. I would love to see us add a quality SG who can open up the floor, someone like a JJ Redick or maybe Dion Waiters. I don't think you can count on Bayless, who was a pretty marginal player to begin with and Stauskas is a very limited player. I don't mind the idea of moving Covington to SG if we can get a solid 3 instead.

Just adding to the bottom of the roster again is disappointing.

The dollars are staggering, but that is today's NBA. Love the signing of Redick.

Sixers should try to overpay for one more solid veteran like Serge Ibaka on a one or two-year deal, and this team will legitimately compete for the Eastern Conference as early as this year if everyone stays healthy.

As much as I like the additions, the Sixers are Embiid's team. If he plays 60-65 games, they're a playoff team. If he plays 31 again, they probably aren't. It's going to be fun to find out.

This may sound crazy but I think they are a playoff team if Embiid doesn't even play a game next year. If he plays I think they are no worse than the 3 seed in the East
