Schilling is not the guy his reputation implies (Way On Topic)

This person has picked up a bad reputation, but....

Stopped to get a 26' Truck to take my stuff North from Pensacola, the guy in front of me was near-HOF, former MLB player Curt Schilling. When asked, he said he was renting the biggest truck he could, filling it up with water and supplies and driving it west to the Tallahassee area just to help.

Athletes make news for stupid things, but this is what most of those guys are really like.

He also arranged to take a couple of truckloads of foodstuffs,diapers, etc. from New England to Houston last week getting donations from his Red Sox fans and right wing nut job followers (I'm a Facebook friend).

People should remember all the charity work he did for Lou Gehrig's disease and all the times he would sign autographs and spend time talking with fans.

Yeah he's a mixed bag. The ego that made him red light Curt also made him one of the best big game pitchers ever. He also was a military brat who worshipped his father. 9/11 made him a bit politically crazy and the Iraq war aligned him with the right. He isn't the brightest bulb in the closet and the crazies fawn all over him. He has a good heart though.

His heart is definitely in the right place with this though there is definitely a part of me that thinks he could do better by donating goods to a charity and arranging the shipping through some larger organization with the means. I just get this image of the guy with the big truck that adds to the problem because he does not know what he is doing as well as the professionals and first responders who do this regularly.

I do not know Curt Shilling other than by what he himself has been stupid enough to broadcast thru social media. Good for him today. But otherwise, he is an ignorant jerk based upon his own words.
