the Brewers and Phillies will play two to accommodate the odd number of teams (15 apiece) in the Cactus and Grapefruit Leagues.

Seems a little odd to have to do that right when the WBC players are also getting back (well, at least the finalists).

Hope to see Painter jump back up if he’s in AAA...a year further removed from surgery recovery. I’ve read a couple of places that his arm angle dropped and hurt both his fastball and slider rotation.

Let's hope he jumps off, not up. Even if he doesn't open the season in MLB it would be rather disappointing if he's not in the rotation in July (and if he isn't hard to imagine he'd be doing well enough in AAA to raise his stock back up either).

And of course Crawford will leave the list too.

I actually think Law is pretty good at this. I put a little more weight on his lists than BA or Pipeline.

It goes back quite a few years, but Domonic Brown was rated that highly. I don't think Kingery was rated that highlu.

More importantly he makes a case that Miller should be the SS over Turner because he is better defensively. They would not do that in 2026 midseason, but if it is true they should really think about it for 2027 as long as his offense progresses to the point where he is up before the end of 2026.

And this decision is squarely on DD and the manager to implement. Don't blame Turner if he wants to play SS as long as he can. A good manager navigates this type of situation after the GM tells him it is the best choice for the team.

He also likes Crawford's defense more than most. Even if it is less advanced now than he says, I think it is important that the Phillies give him the job and let him play CF 5 or 6 times a week. I'd prefer Rojas as the backup over Grichuk to take away the incentive to play someone else.

If they sign Grichuk it's supposed to be in LF though. I get what you mean about the temptation, but he only played one game in CF last year, and 0 in 2024. So it would be a really stupid signing with him as a CF option As a defensive upgrade over Kemp in LF who's also a more proven (but declining platoon) bat it makes more sense. As does Rojas as the 5th OF. There are other FAs (who also can't really play CF) too of course.Market probably doesn't heat up until Bader signs somewhere.

I just hope Miller forces them to call him up!

Drafted in 2000, so fair enough. Howard 2001. I guess I really meant, everyone since that era.

But that just makes it all look worse, doesn't it? That Rollins-Burrell-Utley-Howard-Hamels core (plus Chooch) has never been replicated since.
